A Clare TD has accused the Government of failing to follow through on its commitment to boost the number of inpatient beds for people with eating disorders in the Midwest.

Addressing Minister of State at the Department of Health Mary Butler in the Dáíl, Shannon Deputy Donna McGettigan has highlighted that there are no dedicated public inpatient beds for adults with anorexia or other eating disorders in this region.

There are currently 20 dedicated eating disorder beds across the four CAMHS inpatient units located in Cork, Galway and Dublin.

Deputy McGettigan says people in need are being sent to psychiatric units where they're not receiving appropriate care.

The operational future of a West Clare nursing home will be considered by the HSE this month.

The day care centre of Regina House in Kilrush which can accommodate up to 30 patients was closed in 2020 as part of Covid-19 restrictions.

A decision was taken in 2022 to re-open the service, but this was prevented by staffing deficits, but HSE MidWest says it has now completed an options appraisal to determine its future use.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney says it needs to be returned to full service.

Contracts have been signed on a €1.4 million housing development in Clare's county town.

Jada Construction has been appointed by Clare County Council as the contractor for the construction of a five-bedroom group home at Cloughleigh Road and accessible bungalow at Shallee Drive in Ennis.

The group home will be able to accommodate four individuals as well as a carer while the single-storey unit will be suitable for one to two people, with construction to commence before the end of the month and conclude in early 2026.

The project is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and Director of Social Development with Clare County Council Jason Murphy says it's vital housing delivery caters to the needs of all citizens.

Clare libraries are to be at the forefront of the digital revolution thanks to a new Government investment.

This county has received a total allocation of €110,115 under the Libraries Capital Programme while will make new computers, laptops, iPads and other ICT equipment available in all 15 locations countywide.

The investment is part of a €1.3 million package and is intended to make libraries more digitally inclusive with a particular focus on young, elderly and disadvantaged people.

Library Staff Officer with Clare Library Services Tara Considine says having iPads and laptops in place will benefit many different demographics.

Today is Rare Disease Day.

It is held on the last day of February to raise awareness for rare diseases, generate change, and improve access to treatment and medical representation for the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease, their families and carers.

Communities in Clare are also aiming to raise awareness on Rare Disease Day.

Clare's Minister of State insists the Taoiseach will remind President Trump that foreign direct investment between Ireland and the US is a two-way street when he visits the White House for St Patrick's Day.

It comes as the US President has indicated he will press ahead with placing tariffs of 25% on goods imported from the EU.

In 2023 alone, the value of American Foreign Direct Investment to Ireland was €491bn , while in the same year the value of Irish FDI to the US was $322bn, supporting over 100,000 jobs.

Tulla TD Timmy Dooley who will be visiting Canada for St Patrick's Day has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan that a trade war would be detrimental for all parties.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is just around the corner!

Clare County Council has announced the schedule of Seachtain na Gaeilge events for the county, running from tomorrow, Saturday, the 1st of March 1, until St. Patrick’s Day.

The annual event is described as a “vibrant celebration of the Irish language and culture, bringing together communities across County Clare and beyond”.
