Burren College of Art will host an upcoming exhibition of photocopy self-portraits by renowned (late) Australian artist, Sir Sidney Nolan, as well as an accompanying symposium on March 5.

The exhibition runs from March 6-28 in the College Gallery.

As you heard us mention on Friday’s Morning Focus, and during our news bulletins this morning, Clare GAA has announced a multi-year deal for naming rights on the county grounds.

Shannon-based company Zimmer Biomet has come on board as the new title sponsors, with the home of Clare GAA now being rebranded as Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóig

It is the first time that a sponsorship deal has been secured for the grounds, with the arrangement set to be in place for the next three years, with the option to extend for a further two.

To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Clare GAA's Chief Operating Officer, Deirdre Murphy, and Head of Manufacturing at Zimmer Biomet Shannon, Michael O'Malley.

Small businesses and budding entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to sample 15 events aimed at helping them to start or grow their business as part of this year’s Local Enterprise Week in Clare.

The initiative of the Local Enterprise Offices, supported by Enterprise Ireland and the local authorities, takes place from the 3rd to the 7th of March across Ireland.

Aspiring writers, established authors, and industry professionals alike are invited to join the Ireland’s Publishing Show, a premier writing and publishing conference, taking place in Clare later this month.

The conference will be held at the Inn at Dromoland from the 18th to the 20th of March.

Speakers from across the publishing spectrum will be in attendance, including bestselling self-published authors, traditionally published pros, and experts in selling directly to readers through platforms like Kickstarter.

It's claimed government inaction is contributing to the homeless crisis in Clare. New figures released to Aontú following a parliamentary question show that 71 council homes in this county are currently unoccupied. The Department of Housing's homelessness report for January meanwhile has revealed that 97 Clare adults are now living in emergency accommodation, which is up 17% on this time last year. Kilmurry McMahon based Aontú Representative June Dillon says supplying council houses requires greater political willpower and claims the process is bogged down by bureaucracy.

A Clare café owner says long-term solutions to the challenges facing business owners should be prioritised over once-off grants. New data released by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment on foot of a parliamentary question from Clare TD Cathal Crowe shows 1,278 Clare businesses have received €5.1 million through the Power Up grant. The grant, which is now closed, was introduced in Budget 2025 and offered €4,000 to retail and hospitality businesses who previously availed of the Increased Cost of Business grant. Siobhain Landy of Sweet'n'Green in Ennis, whose business benefitted from the Power Up grant, says while supports are welcome, the reduction of the hospitality VAT rate to 9% is what businesses are crying out for.
