The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, may have been a musical genius, but according to his pal Lionel Richie, he was also, well, smelly! In his new memoir Truly, Richie shares the shocking, gross details about Jackson’s hygiene habits, confirming that the nickname “Smelly”, given by Quincy Jones, was totally earned. Wait until you hear the crude anecdote about the sticky, old clothes and underwear Jackson left behind. Chris and Neeley dive into the most controversial music memoir revelation of the year, questioning why a superstar with billions wouldn’t just take a shower.

In other metal news, the guys are talking about the launch of the new YouTube channel dedicated to the legendary Bob Nalbandian, featuring old Skull Sessions episodes. Bob’s legacy is absolutely crucial to the heavy metal community, and the guys talk about his early instrumental role in the rise of bands like Metallica and Megadeth. Plus, the Sunset Fest Cabo “Woodstock of Yacht Rock” festival is a total disaster, with stars like Kenny Loggins and Alan Parsons dropping out due to promoter issues—it’s turning into a Fyre Fest for boomers.

“I’m the guy that’s gonna say, I’m gonna walk right up to the line if there is a line. If there’s no line, I’m gonna stomp my way until you wish you had a line. That’s who I am.” This brutally honest quote encapsulates the personality clash that makes The Classic Metal Show the raw, unfiltered experience fans crave. Hear Chris Akin admit he’s a shock jock through and through, explaining why a return to safe, corporate radio was never in the cards, especially after the hell of cab driving and working with the Indians during his lowest point. Don’t miss this deep dive into the toxic marriage and depression that led to his shocking departure, forcing him to embrace his true, controversial self.

The guys take you through a truly raw, behind-the-scenes look at the show’s chaotic history, revealing how they struggled to maintain the broadcast during Chris Akin’s personal nadir, an intense period involving a hate-filled relationship and a failed attempt at a clean-cut news show (”All the News”) that he “hated”. They talk about their incredible 20-year run, the resignation email that’s going in the book, and how they knew the chemistry was too good to stay away. They also announce Chris Akin’s big-money, job-job gig next week, where he’ll be engineering a local celebrity’s wake/service—a job too lucrative to turn down, even for the show. Plus, a nod to Rockin’ Randy’s FDA-certified no-bake cookies and his sponsorship of the upcoming Dave Landau live podcast! This episode is packed with stories about maintaining a long-running metal podcast, dealing with disagreements, and the hilarious reality of using early, terrible video technology during the “plan Demic”.
