The International Monetary Fund expects the global economy to grow 3.1% this year and 3.4% in 2017 - both forecasts unchanged from July. The US economy is now tipped to grow 1.6% this year, down from the 2.2% estimate made in July.
US sharemarkets fell on Tuesday. A stronger greenback weighed on globally-focussed stocks and a weaker gold price hit precious metal producers. Traders also positioned ahead of Friday's jobs report. The Dow Jones index fell by 85 points or 0.5% after being down 137 points. The SP 500 index was lower by 0.5% while the Nasdaq lost 12 points or 0.2%.
