US sharemarkets fell on Thursday, weighed down by losses in financial stocks and a slide in Apple. The SP financial index fell 1.1% after Bloomberg reported that some hedge funds have withdrawn excess cash and positions held with Deutsche Bank. Deutsche Bank fell 6.7% in US trade. Wells Fargo lost 2.1% and Citigroup lost 2.3%. The CBOE volatility index jumped 15%. Apple lost 1.5% after broker downgrades. The Dow Jones index fell by 196 points or 1.1% with the SP 500 index lower by 0.9% while the Nasdaq lost 49 points or 0.9%.
