In this video, we will take an in depth look into the mechanisms driving this Southern snowstorm. Parts of North Carolina could see as much as 3-5 inches of snow in some places, possibly reaching yearly averages in just a matter of hours. Raleigh could see as much as 3 inches of snow. Some interesting weather happening in other parts of the country as well. The Midwest has a blast of cold arctic air moving through, and extreme flooding concerns continue for the Pearl River Basin in Mississippi.

Major flooding and record rainfall continues for many locations in the Southeast. The Pearl River Basin in Mississippi has numerous locations under a state of emergency due to flooding, and yesterday Arkansas had four cities receive record rainfall numbers. Unfortunately, this rain is going to continue over the next few days, with a possibility of snow for North Carolina and Virginia. This Mid-Atlantic snowstorm will depend on the arctic, cold temperatures moving down from the Midwest. Check back later for updated weather forecasts.

Pearl River in Jackson, Mississippi has reached its 3rd highest crest of all time. This has led to extreme flooding for thousands of homes around the area. Unfortunately, more rain is in the forecast for the majority of this week. As a low pressure system moves through the Northeast, (bringing 6-8 inches of snowfall to New hampshire/Maine) it is followed by a band of heavy rainfall stretching from Louisiana up to West Virginia. This is bad news for the already saturated Southeast. I’ll keep you updated as this flood threat progresses.

As Mabel moves through the Midwest, it is going to bring freezing temps and damaging wind along with it. Parts of Minnesota could see wind chill temperatures as low as -40! Mabel will bring decent snowfall rates to parts of Indiana and Ohio, as well as portions of the Northeast. Additionally, severe rain and flooding continue for the Southeast, and a major snowstorm is expected for the Northwest over the weekend.

Mabel is currently moving through Eastern Texas, dropping significant rainfall numbers from Louisiana up to Southern Ohio. Parts of the South will likely see flooding over the next few days. Meanwhile, decent snow numbers are set to hit parts of Indiana and Ohio as a freezing arctic blast of cold air infiltrates the Great Lakes States.
