  • Real Abortion News #77 - Surge of State Abortion Bans

    Originally aired May 2019

On May 7 Georgia joined the ranks of fourteen other States in 2019 considering bans on abortion after the baby’s heart starts beating. This follows on the heels of a similar Ohio bill signed on April 11. These bans typically carry exceptions for rape, incest, and the physical health of the mother.

On May 15, Alabama Governor, Madam Kay Ivey signed into law a total ban on abortions with the very narrow exception of the endangerment of mother’s life. If convicted of perpetrating abortion a doctor could face 99 years in prison.

States passing abortion bans do not so much see abortion as a woman’s issue as they do a human issue. If a free people’s government excludes certain people from protection under the law does that mean slavery is still alive? Thank you for the reminder, Alabama.

  • Real Abortion News #76 - Is Google Censoring Pro-life Ads?

    Originally aired May 2019

Recently Google announced a new policy placing disclaimer messages on all ads related to abortion search terms. Is this discrimination? Google and other Google affiliates and social media organizations have come under fire over the last several years for censoring conservative and specifically pro-life messaging on their platforms.

The summer of 2018 the Supreme Court struck down a California law forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise for abortionists at the first point of contact whether advertising, scheduling, or office walk-ins. Despite the Supreme Court’s reversal of that law New York thumbing its nose by attempting to pass a law virtually identical to California’s.

Google’s new policy serves to benefit abortionists by forcing pro-life organizations to pay for a message that is Google’s not their own. Is Google’s new policy their way of circumventing the law?

  • Real Abortion News #75 - Buffalo Pro-life Community Unites to Cut Abortions

    Originally aired May 2019

On May 9 one of the largest displays of pro-life solidarity occurred in Buffalo. Pro-life people maxed out the capacity of the Buffalo Grand hotel raising $242,000. The vision: Reducing Buffalo abortions by 50% in five years.

The group applauded hearing a vision and plan to cut Buffalo abortions in half in the face of what they believe to be the barbaric actions of New York’s recent deregulation of abortion via the Reproductive Health Act.

The combined efforts of several pregnancy centers is led by CompassCare. CompassCare President Jim Harden stated, “Women considering abortion feel stuck, like they need to have an abortion. CompassCare Buffalo’s job is to erase the need for abortion one woman at a time through ethical medical care and community support.”

  • Real Abortion News #74 - Cuomo Ignores Supreme Court on Contraception Mandate

    Originally aired May 2019

Cuomo recently signed into law the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act. This law mandates all health insurance plans cover without copay all abortion-causing drugs and devices not only for enrollees but their spouses, domestic partners, and dependents.

Health insurance plans and benefits are directly paid for by individual enrollees. This new law means that the enrollees are now forced to collectively pay for the abortions, sterilizations, and contraceptives of those enrolled in their same plan.

This is a problem for those who believe all human life is equally valuable and deserving of protection, for whom participating in ending the life of a baby in the womb is forbidden. Why is New York ignoring religious liberty exemptions upheld by the Supreme Court on the Obamacare Contraception mandates? Why is New York forcing all health insurance enrollees to violate their deeply held religious convictions?

  • Real Abortion News #73 - Should infants born alive in botched abortions be saved?

    Originally aired May 2019

Recently the U.S. Senate considered the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill simply requires physicians to use all reasonable measures to save the life of a baby born alive after an abortion, just as they would with any other patient. Astonishingly, the Senate rejected the measure by a vote of 53 to 44.

The Center for Disease Control estimates 143 infant deaths after abortion from 2003 to 2014. In their reportthe CDC stated, “…it is possible that this number (143) underestimates the total number of deaths involving induced termination.”

Similar bills are being tried at the State level in places like North Carolina and Wisconsin with democratic governors vowingveto.

Bewildered, Americans wonder how the U.S. Senate got populated by so many who refuse to represent the constitutional interests of all their constituents including the most vulnerable.

  • Real Abortion News #72 - Why did Jesus say, “The kingdom of God belongs to such as these”?

    Originally aired May 2019

Jesus was only ever angry with all twelve disciples when those disciples rebuked parents for bringing babies to be blessed by Him. In Mark chapter 10, Jesus reprimands the disciples because He says, “the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

What is it about a baby making him the perfect picture of heaven’s citizen? A baby has no legal standing, voice, or resources of his own. Unless someone takes responsibility for him, he will die of simple exposure within hours. A sinner before a holy God is no different than that baby. Unless Jesus exchanges His life for the sinner’s plight at the cross, he will die of exposure to his sin. In essence Jesus is saying, ‘Disciple, you ought to know, that baby is you.’

  • Real Abortion News #71 - People of Rochester Respond to RHA on May 4

    Originally aired May 2019

Recently NY declared abortion a fundamental human right, applauding even late term abortion. Because of these legislative actions NY’s largest annual pro-life event, CompassCare’s Walk for Life on May 4, is expected to be even larger.

Churches, businesses, and thousands of sponsors and walkers, raise awareness that a woman seeks abortion because she feels like she has no choice, that abortion serves only to punctuate her loneliness, and that abortion is a symptom of society’s barbaric abandonment of women.

Through CompassCare’s Walk for Life the community invests in the care and support crucial to free a woman to have her baby who would otherwise feel trapped into thinking abortion is her only option.

Jim Harden President of CompassCare says, “It doesn’t matter what the laws are. True choice only exists when a woman is free to say no to abortion.”

  • Real Abortion News #70 - Why Are Christians Pro-life?

    Originally aired April 2019

What is the anchoring belief of pro-lifers? All pro-life conviction is rooted in the eternal truth that humans are made in the image of God, reflecting God’s image equally. Therefore each person is equally valuable, without qualification, from the womb to the tomb.

Equal human value is precisely Jesus’ point in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Jesus is answering the lawyer’s question, “Who is my neighbor?” Interestingly, in 1973, lawyers on the U.S. Supreme Court asked an eerily similar question when deliberating on whether an unborn child qualifies as a person.

Christians understand that people don’t get to choose who qualifies as their neighbor, as a person. So when the Supreme Court ruled in Roe v Wade “The word person does not apply to the unborn,” on behalf of humanity everywhere, for all time, a Christian stands up and says, no.

  • Real Abortion News #69 - Pro-life Employers Attacked By NY Legislation

    Originally aired April 2019

On January 22, 2019, under the cover of the now infamous Reproductive Health Act, New York’s legislature passed SB 660, otherwise known as the “Boss Bill.” It now awaits Governor Cuomo’s signature.

The bill makes it illegal for pro-life organizations to employ staff who both maintain pro-life convictions and live consistently with the mission and beliefs of those organizations.

The new law violates religious and pro-life employers’ 1) freedom of association, by forcing them to hire and employ staff with beliefs antithetical to their mission, 2) freedom of religion, by forcing them to deny their belief that preborn children are fully human and created in the image of God, and 3) freedom of speech, by forcing these organizations to normalize and promote abortion in their employee handbooks.

  • Real Abortion News #68b - Abortion Cost Per Birth Declines in NY

    Originally aired March 2019

New York State recently published its vital statistics to reveal falling abortion ratios. An abortion ratio is the number of abortions to live births. For example, in New York City it cost the black community 99 abortions in order to have 100 babies. In Manhattan that cost is 131 abortions per 100 babies born.

In 2016, statewide there were 35 abortions for every 100 lives births, down from 2008 when it cost 47 abortions for every 100 babies born.

The costs are even more telling when viewed through the lens of ethnicity. For every 100 babies born to white women it costs 17 abortions, for Hispanic it costs 37, and for black it costs 85 abortions per 100 babies born.
