Consensus Unreality

For this weeks episode Dave interviews the mind behind the music and performance project Coteries, Erick Van Ficken. Ficken has a long history of paranormal experiences, and esoteric encounters culminating in a lifelong pursuit of spiritual exploration. In this sprawling interview Ficken enlightens on integrating the dark side of the occult and paranormal and the masterwork of facing your fears. We also chat on performing experimental music, experiences living in haunted houses, encounters with the famed Marfa Mystery Lights and much more... You can hear cuts from Erick's releases "Sound for Isolation 26" and "Oris Circumcisio" in the episode. Linked below is Erick's latest release.

We are celebrating 5 years of Consensus Unreality this summer, and we thought it might be good to frame the show once again for people who haven't been keeping up, or have never heard. (Don't worry, if you have been keeping up, its still worth a listen!) We are a podcast first and foremost, although we now have an ongoing print material project on our Patreon which includes our quarterly Journal of Shells and other recorded and printed materials. On the podcast we try to unearth new connections between things esoteric, mythological, occult, highly strange and fringe in cultural nature. In this episode hear us elaborate on some of that process and what we think separates us a bit from the crowd. We'll have more interviews and public episodes streaming soon, but the bulk of our work, strange magickal dabbling, writing and talking- goes down on Patreon.

I am Ra. Closing the book on Don and Carla for now: we discuss the Law of One, situating it within a continuum of channeled literature, noting its influences and eventual influence. Is it Christian mysticism? New Age syncretic remix? UFO cult? Exotica? Plus a bonus Patreon discussion on hypnosis, the midcentury New Age figure Harry J. Gardener and his Harmony Grove event, apes, and more.

In this conversation with Tanner F. Boyle of Getting Spooked, we cover a wide variety of ufological subjects, from older channeling groups to the more recent strangeness happening in the UFO scene.  Tanner has a deep knowledge of the intelligence presence in the UFO subculture, and this episode demonstrates it. PLUS! an extended bonus Patreon chat for the subjects just too wild to cover on the main episode!

In this episode we open up conversation about the work of researchers and experimental channelers Don Elkins and Carla Rueckert. Best known for their legendary channelings of The Ra Material, the duo have a rich history of building out mythologies and generating synergistic narratives which are still strongly permeating the field today. The Groups dynamic and interpersonal connections create a checkered backstory which we are starting to unravel in this episode. We focus on early works by Elkins and Rueckert and try to place actual inspirations in their work against alleged conspiracies found in media. Follow along as we take a look at the strange mid-century channelings that lead to The Law of One and the influence of Rueckert and Elkins on the current spectrum of the UFO reality.

Hashing out the UFO potato a bit more on this episode: recent readings by Mark Fisher and Eric Wargo; the odd specificities of the abduction phenomenon; the tricky nature of engaging the meta-phorical/ physical flying saucer; quantum consciousness; recapping some recent ufological musings. Plus: bonus patron-exclusive chat on Marvel’s use of the conspiratorial “second matrix”, odd coincidences in Twin Peaks The Return, and cold space war speculation.
