Why CEO’s Hire Consultants and Coaches: The REAL Value They Bring with Brad Rex (Ep64)
Are you ready to harness the power of LinkedIn to make authentic connections with your ideal clients and elevate your presence on this essential platform?
Okay, so here’s the thing about LinkedIn...
If you’re a consultant or coach (or aspiring to become one), you’re probably on LinkedIn already because you know it’s the best social platform for your type of business.
If you’re a consultant wanting to work with an organization, this is likely the ONLY platform C-Suite executives are on. And if you’re a coach wanting to land professional clients, they are there too.
But LinkedIn doesn’t come without its challenges - the time suck, plus the uncertainty if you’re doing the right things. And the ick we all get from those non-stop “connection” requests are cold-call sales in disguise.
It’s, for this reason, I’m excited to have Lisa “Less is More” Kanda on the show.
Lisa Kanda is a LinkedIn marketing expert who is passionate about efficiency and authenticity. She shares her journey from corporate marketing to becoming a LinkedIn specialist and the evolution of the platform since Microsoft's acquisition.
We dive into practical tips for building your brand, engaging with content, and creating an effective LinkedIn strategy that delivers outstanding results without wasting your time. Lisa also shares the impact of the pandemic on LinkedIn's opportunities and how to navigate its features for maximum benefit. We discuss the importance of consistency on the platform, how the algorithm works, and how to build authentic relationships through strategic activities.
In this episode, you'll hear:
(0:00:13) - Maximizing LinkedIn for Consultants and Coaches (5 Minutes)
I'm joined by Lisa, an expert in LinkedIn marketing, to discuss how we can make the most of our time on the platform to make authentic connections with our ideal clients. We talk all about how to use LinkedIn efficiently and how to stand out and be genuine in our approach - all without getting caught up in the time suck. Plus, she's offering a free masterclass for members of the Purpose to Profits Academy to maximize your LinkedIn potential. Don't miss out!
(0:04:48) - LinkedIn and Social Media for Business (13 Minutes)
Lisa shares her background in corporate marketing and how she became an expert in LinkedIn social media as an early adopter. We discuss how the pandemic has elevated the opportunities for LinkedIn, and how the platform has changed since Microsoft bought it. Lisa shares how LinkedIn has become more feature-rich and accessible for B2B companies, and what these features are.
(0:17:42) - Building Your Brand on LinkedIn (12 Minutes)
Continuing the conversation with Lisa, an expert in LinkedIn marketing, we explore how to build an effective brand on the platform and create an authentic connection with your audience. We emphasize the importance of building trust and creating a great first impression, as well as strategies for optimizing your profile, establishing connections, and engaging with content. Lisa shares her background in corporate marketing and her experience as an early adopter of LinkedIn, and we discuss how the pandemic has changed the way we use the platform.
(0:30:09) - Consistency and Relationship Building on LinkedIn (6 Minutes)
Continuing the conversation with Lisa, we discuss the importance of consistency on LinkedIn. We learn how the algorithm works and how it decides which content to show in your feed. Lisa shares that it's not enough to just post, but we need to engage with others to stay top of mind and build authentic relationships. We also learn that expecting immediate results from one post is not realistic and that it takes time to build relationships on the platform.
(0:36:10) - LinkedIn Strategy and Consistency (13 Minutes)
Continuing the conversation with Lisa, an expert in LinkedIn marketing, we learn about how to create an effective strategy for amplifying content on the platform. Lisa shares her insight on how to be intentional in the content you are sharing, how to be strategic in your comments, and the importance of using native posts rather than external links to get the most out of the platform. We also discuss the importance of consistency and how to drive traffic back to your website.
(0:49:12) - LinkedIn Challenge and Personal Coaching (4 Minutes)
We continue our conversation with Lisa, an expert in LinkedIn marketing, discussing the importance of consistency on the platform and how to make the most of our time to create authentic connections. We learn about the algorithm and how it helps with strategic activities to achieve the best results. We also discuss how to structure a LinkedIn post for greater engagement, how to tell inspirational stories, and how to use the mobile app as a ninja trick to save time. Lisa also introduces her free and paid programs to help listeners get more consistent on LinkedIn in 40 minutes or less, and end with a challenge to help listeners decide if LinkedIn is a key part of their marketing strategy.
(0:53:21) - Maximizing LinkedIn Success (8 Minutes)
I'm continuing the conversation with Lisa to discuss how to make the most of our time on LinkedIn. We talk about how consistency is key to getting noticed, and Lisa shares her program, as well as other free resources available on YouTube and within LinkedIn. We also discuss the importance of setting goals and measuring our progress on the platform. Finally, we wrap up by looking at how we can make ourselves accountable for our progress.
About the guest: Lisa Kanda helps businesses and entrepreneurs learn how to establish and grow their online presence to get visible, connect with their ideal client, and use their digital real estate in a strategic, effective way to see results. Most likely you’ve been in business long enough where you’re not starting from scratch with your marketing and social media, but just when you think you had it figured out; these platforms change the rules! It can be frustrating and overwhelming. She takes overwhelming technology and break it down into easy, understanding steps that help you succeed.

I talk a lot about the importance of brand messaging on this show and with my clients 1:1.
And for sure, brand messages are essential for your business - you want to ensure that your ideal client knows what you offer and what makes you unique.
But storytelling takes things to a whole new level.
Storytelling is all about building emotional connections with your ideal clients and creating a sense of authenticity and identity for your brand. It's not just about communicating your business value - it's about connecting with your client on a deeper, more personal level.
When you incorporate storytelling into your marketing and branding strategies, you're not just telling people what you do; you're showing them who you are.
This emotional connection is crucial for consultants and coaches, where trust and credibility are key.
You might think that you don't have exciting stories to tell, that it's just a gimmick, or that your clients won't care. But that is not the case!
Today I'll be going over the four stories your business needs and give you some tips on how to get started in crafting those stories.
In this episode, you'll hear:
[02:34] Learn how to share your, "What I do..." story and the framework you need to use.
[06:45] Craft your business backstory and craft it to the person you're talking to.
[14:25] Hear about the most important story you'll tell, your "WHY story."
[18:59] Tune in for the big recap and what you need to do next.

He talks about his exciting career journey, which started at the Naval Academy, then to British Petroleum, and finally to Disney. He applied for a financial manager job at Disney and was one of 1400 candidates. Brad and I worked together at Disney and have been colleagues for many years.
Brad had an unconventional start to his career after meeting his boss's boss while studying finance at college. He was offered an executive job at Disney and moved to Orlando, Florida, in 1994. During his twelve-and-a-half-year tenure, he worked in finance and strategic planning before taking over as leader of Epcot theme park on the week of 911, 2001. He was responsible for opening several attractions and expanding to the festivals until he left to take on a job with Hilton Grand Vacations. This job involved visiting their resorts in New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, until the company was acquired by Blackstone.
He is also the author of The Surpassing Life: Deep Personal Excellence.
Today, Brad is the CEO of EHOME Counseling Group, a nationwide virtual mental health counseling business. In addition, they are now the primary mental health care provider for the US Olympic and Paralympic Team!

Simon T. Bailey is my former Disney colleague, and I can't wait for him to share his entrepreneurial journey!
He had four jobs over seven years at Disney, including parking event sales, selling the Braves spring training, handling international wholesale, and being the Sales Director for the Disney Institute. During his time at Disney, Simon was interviewed by a journalist and stated that he saw himself in 10-15 years as the President and CEO of the Walt Disney World Resort and eventually the Chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company. This statement caused an uproar with his superior!
Today, Simon has been an entrepreneur in the content distribution business for nearly twenty years. He started by hiring an instructional designer and investing in developing content. He has since branched out into speaking, coaching, writing books, creating online courses, and licensing content. His main focus is creating content once and using it to create multiple revenue streams.
Tune into the interview to hear about Simon's journey as an entrepreneur and his new book, Ignite The Power of Women in Your Life!

Today, Denise Musselwhite shares the moment when she decided to shift from CIO to executive coach and business owner.
Denise had been dreaming of being an entrepreneur for a long time, but the Pandemic inspired her to leap. Her research into the challenges that women face in STEM fields and the negative impact that the Pandemic had on them motivated her to take action!
She was a CIO for a large, independent school and had to transition the entire organization to online, sacrificing time with her family. Challenges during the Pandemic caused some women to leave their roles, as they could not make the same sacrifice. This experience, combined with her research and ongoing desire to be an entrepreneur, led her to pursue a new career path. She realized she had been teaching schools nationwide the best practices in technology and consulting them on implementation.
So, to make this transition, she sought help from a coach to help her grieve her 25-year CIO career and separate from a role she had identified with for many years. It took her over a year to uncover her purpose and passions. Hear how she let go of her old identity to make room for something new!
Tune in to hear Denise share her personal story of employee to entrepreneur and the mindset shift it takes to succeed.
