DON’T GIVE UP, YOU GOT THE MUSIC IN YOU. This week, we cover Pokemon Sword and Shield, how Uncharted would never get made now as it was, how Anthony has finally let go of trying to like point and click adventures, how David has let go of 100%ing Final Fantasy 9 to finally finish it, and how Susan is finding pleasant human experiences in the wasteland of Fallout 76.

Look, a Kingdom Hearts game is actually out for the first time in nearly a decade, so we’re gonna talk about it, but I promise you it’s worth it. We dive into the surprisingly subversive nature of Kingdom Hearts 3, the calm that comes from running through Resident Evil 2 over and over again, and how Tetris 99 convinced us that Nintendo Switch Online is worth your while.
Spoiler warning: There are some spoilers in the Kingdom Hearts segment (largely about the ending of the Pirates of the Caribbean segment, as well some obliquely-described lore discussions). There’s a relatively huge one 1:05:51 to 1:06:20 (again, no specifics but it’s enough for the warning). If you want to skip the whole thing, avoid 55:45 to 1:15:00.

January’s not even over yet and we’re already in the thick of it, so let’s get right to it. We talk about EA’s recent cancellation of yet another Star Wars game, solving the game discovery problem on Nintendo Switch, and wanting remakes of everything in the wake of the excellent Resident Evil 2.

First episode of 2019 and there are Metal Gear, Long Dark, and Kingdom Hearts references. In case you forgot what you were listening to. This week, we talk about finding a different experience in Fallout 76, wondering what we want from Kingdom Hearts 3 and other long-awaited sequels rooted in the past, and finding the human connection in the clumsiness of Tabletop Simulator.
