  • Trump Knows Iran Is a Disaster | Same War, Two Fronts | Ukraine's Big Lie

Iran just hit a 2.5 million barrel supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz and the United States did nothing. Now the USS Theodore Roosevelt is steaming toward the region with 9,000 troops behind it. Peter argues the silence tells you everything: Trump is reportedly waiting until after the November midterms to launch, and a president confident of a quick win would take it now and ride the boost into the election. Waiting means he knows it will be ugly, long and costly, and he plans to do it anyway. There are also reports he consulted Grok before the Venezuela operation, which raises the question of who is actually advising him. From there the conversation turns to the bigger picture. Charlie and Peter argue that Iran and Russia are fighting the same war against the same hegemon, and that the growing Western crowd that is pro-Iran but anti-Russia is holding two incompatible positions. Peter takes apart the line that "Russia can just leave in 24 hours": no country gives back territory after 200,000 dead, especially while winning, and the people of the Donbass, Crimea and Kherson do not want Kiev back. The last stretch is the hardest: press gangs dragging men off the street, a language ombudsman telling mothers not to speak Russian in labor, open admirers of Hitler commanding Ukraine's most powerful units, and Zionists like Laura Loomer now tying themselves to Kiev while Ukrainian ultranationalists call Israel their model. Peter's verdict: you cannot be a progressive and support this. Charlie asks how anyone breaks through a decade of Russiagate faith before it drags Europe into a direct war.00:00 Gas prices dip, the Theodore Roosevelt sails for the Gulf00:25 Iran hits a 2.5 million barrel supertanker and the US does not respond01:56 Why Trump is waiting until after the midterms03:19 Is Trump asking Grok whether to go to war?05:16 A few weeks of munitions, no forward bases, no surprise07:10 The US has made itself the villain13:04 Iran and Russia are fighting the same war16:44 Europe's dilemma between Ukraine and Iran20:33 "Russia can just leave in 24 hours": the rebuttal30:28 Language police and mothers in labor31:33 Why the information war works on Ukraine but not Iran37:53 Press gangs: the one thing that should end Western support42:02 Why a progressive cannot support Ukraine48:20 How Russiagate poisoned everything52:58 Zionists and Banderites are mergingGo Deeper: https://ruinsreport.com/Substack: https://conversationsamongtheruins.substack.com/Support the Conversation:Join as a Member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW9CSfmP6gEjqtOdGTD_JKw/joinBuy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/amongtheruins

  • False Flag Season? | Fairford, FlyDubai & the Death of the Fourth Estate

Three white vans, one barrel of gasoline, five men released on bail within hours. That is the "terrorist plot" against RAF Fairford that British and American officials are already pinning on Iran. In this episode Peter makes the case that it is too incompetent to be a false flag at all: the far more likely story is petty fuel thieves, seized on by politicians who no longer bother to build a convincing narrative because they know the press will not ask a single hard question. Charlie pushes back: if the incident is real but everything after it is manufactured, how different is that from a false flag? Then the FlyDubai plunge, a genuine near-catastrophe with 154 Israelis aboard, a co-pilot in the cockpit and a pilot nearly killed. Peter walks through the murder-suicide precedents and the lone wolf theory, and explains why Iranian direction is the least likely explanation, even as Netanyahu, facing an October election, tries to milk it while his own IDF and Mossad contradict him. From there the conversation turns darker: why Cold War fear has been replaced by a shrug, why Peter puts the odds of nuclear use or an energy infrastructure war above 50 percent, whether an early economic collapse is the only thing that can restrain Washington, and what the convoy strikes and injured Marines in Hormuz say about who really controls the Strait.Timestamps:00:00 Are we in false flag season?00:30 Fairford: three vans, one barrel of gasoline, released on bail04:37 Why Fairford is too incompetent to be a false flag08:17 Reichstag fire: seizing a crisis vs staging one11:15 The FlyDubai plunge was real and nearly killed everyone aboard15:24 Netanyahu needs a casus belli; IDF and Mossad contradict him16:59 The lone wolf theory21:38 Why false flags got lazy: the press became scribes24:56 The apathy trap: nukes in two months, Costco first28:50 Cold War fear vs today's shrug36:14 Any hope? • Bessent's Hormuz Lie | Iran's Doomsday Warning | Europe's Economic Cliff

Scott Bessent says the Strait of Hormuz is wide open and Iran is two weeks from its last oil shipment. Iran says it hit 19 ships in two days. Tanker trackers put flows at half of pre-war levels. Somebody is lying, and Peter is 99 percent sure who. We dig into why hard data on a narrow strait is so hard to find, whether Iran is letting oil through by choice, and why 11 mines cleared in two months tells you everything about who controls the water. Then the harder question: if the US cannot win conventionally and cannot walk away, what is left? Peter lays out why a single strike on Pickaxe Mountain, one mushroom cloud, might be exactly what Trump thinks he needs, and why Iran has no reason to wait for the midterms before striking first. Araghchi says Iran is prepared for a doomsday war. We ask what that means for the Gulf monarchies, for Israel, and whether an Israeli nuclear strike would finally break the world's silence. We close on Russia and Ukraine, where the war has turned economic too: data centers hit, steel production gone, Black Sea ports shut, salaries unpaid. Europe will have to pay, but with Saudi oil cut off and US diesel exports under threat, Charlie asks whether the Western system itself is the thing that has to collapse. • Trump Threatens Hell at the UN | Americans Are Fed Up | Out of Time

Donald Trump stood before the UN General Assembly and read a prepared text that threatened to send Iran and its future generations to hell. Charlie and Peter Erickson ask what it means when the American president talks like a Hollywood villain on the world's most respected stage. Their answer is that the speech burns away the last of America's moral authority. They also ask why Europe stays silent, why Russia keeps placating Trump, and why nobody in his circle stopped the text. The only way Trump could make good on threats like these is nuclear, and they argue everyone in the room understood that. From there the conversation goes to the hard questions. With diesel at seven dollars and jet fuel shortages cancelling flights, can Trump keep up the tough guy act, or will a cornered president do something reckless? Does Iran now need a nuclear deterrent? Would Israel strike Iran on its own to kill any deal between Washington and Tehran? Peter traces the pattern back to the 1970s, including Jimmy Carter's tense meeting with Moshe Dayan. He argues that Israel's supporters have lost control of the narrative while keeping their grip on policy, helped by Citizens United and the rise of megadonor money. Then father and son disagree. Charlie blames the Israel alliance for much of America's $40 trillion debt. Peter pushes back and points to China, which also borrowed heavily but has world class infrastructure to show for it. They close with a heated look at whether there is still time to change course, and at what a reckoning might look like once it comes.00:00 Peter's cancelled flight and the jet fuel shortage01:09 Trump at the UN: "annihilation" and hell for future generations05:00 How one speech destroys America's soft power pillar08:37 Why Europe won't break with Trump, and Russia's calculation10:20 Who approved this speech? • Houthis Break Saudi Arabia | Diesel at $6.54 | Xi Heads to Washington

Trump had the planes loaded for a massive strike on Yemen. Then he called it off. Charlie and Peter Erickson ask what that tells us: if the US had the means to punish the Houthis for taking Saudi Arabia's pipeline offline, it would have done so. It didn't. Meanwhile diesel is spinning past $6.54 on interstate signs, one in six French gas stations has no fuel, sulfur prices have doubled in India, United is cancelling flights, and JP Morgan has admitted it can no longer model an end game for this war.Charlie argues the US is a car that can't go forward or back. It can't win conventionally after losing its forward bases and the Fifth Fleet, and it can't admit it is no longer the hegemon, which leaves one option nobody wants to name: a tactical nuclear weapon. Peter agrees the option is always there and that Trump passes an off ramp every week, but pushes back on inevitability. This is an unpopular war, even Robert Kagan calls it a mistake, and Qatar is openly floating a new Gulf security architecture that includes Iran. Could Xi Jinping's visit on Wednesday give Trump a way out? Charlie puts the odds under five percent. Peter isn't so sure. They also dig into why MBS just signed a $24 billion F-35 deal with a country that couldn't defend his pipeline, why Europe's political class seems to want war with Russia more than the Americans ever did, what 1,600 Ukrainian drones over Moscow actually changed, and the human cost of a war where men are marched to the front in handcuffs while Western officials call the ones who flee cowards.00:00 Power out in Tennessee, fuel out in France: is the collapse here?01:20 Diesel at $6.54: why the US won't run dry but Europe ight03:20 JP Morgan admits it can't model the end game05:28 The lag effect, the SPR drawdown and Saudi Arabia offline06:39 Trump loads the planes for Yemen, then calls it off09:35 Out of conventional options: the tactical nuke debate12:15 US hegemony as religion: the cult of American exceptionalism15:27 Albright, Kagan, and the garden versus the jungle19:15 Too deep to turn back: Israel, Europe and now Trump22:50 The petrodollar bargain breaks: a car stuck in neutral26:17 Why a Yemen ground war would be a nightmare for the US29:45 MBS's $24B F-35 gamble and the exit from China's digital currency34:32 Can Xi give Trump a way out? • Iran War Round Two | The Saudi House of Cards | Ukraine's Grid Dies

Trump says he has a "big decision" to make about whether to annihilate Iran. Axios says the administration is discussing a full resumption of the bombing campaign after the midterms. But the Fifth Fleet's port in Bahrain is trashed, the forward bases are unusable, the standoff munitions are depleted, and one downed aviator cost over a billion dollars to recover. So which is it: a spent superpower that cannot restart the war, or a cornered president who goes for broke? Peter tries to sit on the fence and Charlie drags him off it. The answer they land on is not reassuring, especially with 40,000 two thousand pound bombs headed to Israel, half of them penetrators built for the entrances to Iran's missile cities. From there the conversation turns to Saudi Arabia, and to a question almost nobody in the West asks out loud: is it actually a country? Iran and Yemen are civilizational states with farmers who have held their land for millennia. Saudi Arabia is a 1920s deal between one family and Anglo-American intelligence, held together by oil checks and foreign labor. If MBS throws in with Israel and the US against Iran while the checks stop, the whole structure could come apart. Charlie sees the same fragility in Israel and Ukraine. Peter pushes back, and the disagreement over what makes an identity real is one of the sharpest exchanges we have had. Then Ukraine: why the refinery strikes everyone posts about on X are a one to fifty trade against what Russia is doing to Ukraine's grid, what a winter offensive with no electricity looks like, and what would actually happen to NATO's 2,500 planes if a Polish foreign minister got his no fly zone. We close on the hardest question of all: not whether these wars are lost, but what Washington does when it can no longer deny it.00:00 Good news Friday, with no good news00:12 The dissident split: is a post-midterm strike on Iran coming?01:26 Trump's "annihilate" post, and what a real escalation would have to target05:56 Thousands of planes over Iran, and why the billion dollar rescue shows the risk09:12 Why aren't the B-2s flying?11:20 Charlie: past the point of no return, Trump becomes king of the ash heap14:03 Peter gets off the fence: 40,000 bombs and the penetrators16:20 Does Saudi Arabia join the war? • The End of the West | October 7th Lie Unravels | Russia Ends Its Restraint

Saudi Arabia's east-west pipeline is shut, the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and the world's oil markets are about to feel the full weight of both. Charlie asks Peter the question underneath everything: what exactly is ending? Peter's answer is bigger than American hegemony. It is the close of a 500 year run of Western dominance, and an empire in its death throes can still do enormous damage. The clearest symptom of collapse is the lying. From the Leipzig drone story every European minister copy-pasted, to the 60 Minutes tale of a pilot who hit the ground at 100 mph with a broken back and then climbed a 7,000 foot ridge, the narratives no longer hold. Then the biggest lie of all: a new Haaretz report says MBZ personally warned Netanyahu of a massive attack ten days before October 7th, and Netanyahu told no one. Days after the attack, Hamas offered to return civilians without conditions. Israel ignored it.Peter and Charlie also cover why Israel feels happier and more creditworthy than it should while 40,000 one ton bombs head its way, how the Houthis are beating a Saudi military that spent hundreds of billions on American hardware, the Russian strike that landed between two trains carrying Boris Johnson and David Petraeus, the SBU versus GUR shootout and scam call center economy inside Ukraine, and what Lavrov told John Mearsheimer about the peace deal Russia was willing to accept.00:00 Saudi Arabia in trouble: pipeline shut, Hormuz closed00:50 What exactly is ending?01:25 The death throes of American-led Western hegemony05:03 Is 500 years of dominance what defines the West?09:12 The lying epidemic: the New York Times and the Leipzig drone12:37 The 60 Minutes pilot rescue story falls apart18:52 October 7th: Haaretz says MBZ warned Netanyahu ten days early25:53 Stand-down order and Netanyahu's motives32:14 Israel's delusion: happiness polls, bond yields and 40,000 bombs39:15 Gaza under "ceasefire" and the Israeli documentary that provoked fury46:05 Saudi Arabia, the Iraqi militias and the pipeline strike52:56 20th century military vs 21st century military: how the Houthis win56:46 Russia strikes a train between Boris Johnson and David Petraeus1:03:24 Will NATO pull its people out of Kiev?1:05:49 Ukraine's internal war: SBU vs GUR, scam call centers and NABUGo Deeper: https://ruinsreport.com/Substack: https://conversationsamongtheruins.substack.com/Support the Conversation:Join as a Member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW9CSfmP6gEjqtOdGTD_JKw/joinBuy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/amongtheruins

  • Europe Wants War With Russia While Ukraine Bleeds Out | Houthis Checkmate Saudi Arabia

Ukraine is losing men, money and its Black Sea lifeline, yet the front lines still refuse to crumble. Peter Erickson explains why drone warfare has turned every advance into a slow grind, why a collapse is still possible, and why Europe's leaders are responding to Russian gains not with realism but with hysteria. Germany sent out 300,000 draft registration letters and got 583 volunteers. Meanwhile a Russian strike disabled a train two minutes from the Polish border, right behind one carrying Boris Johnson, Carl Bildt and Merz's national security adviser, and Putin has said openly that NATO troops in Ukraine means direct war. Then the Middle East, where the Houthis may have just pulled off the strategic move of the year. Satellite images show a Saudi pumping station on the East-West pipeline obliterated, the line hit in eight places, and roughly five million barrels a day taken off the market. With Bab al-Mandab under Houthi control and Washington refusing to come to Riyadh's aid, Charlie and Peter argue Saudi Arabia has no choice left but to deal with Tehran and Sanaa. The Gulf states were ready to meet Iran in Oman to discuss the Strait of Hormuz until Bahrain bailed. And the US, still running night convoys under air escort and still getting hit, is left with a blockade that blockades itself. We also look at Eric Schmidt's admission that Russia now leads in drone technology, a Polish foreign minister and Rachel Maddow living on a different planet, and why Peter thinks the songs sung centuries from now will be about a mad emperor and the sandaled soldiers who brought him down.00:00 Is the Ukraine war basically over?00:51 Why the front lines refuse to crumble06:48 Germany's draft letters: 583 volunteers out of 300,00009:42 The train strike two minutes from Poland11:22 How real is the risk of NATO troops in Ukraine?15:15 The Polish foreign minister lives on another planet20:13 Europeans won't fight and won't pay: will money break Ukraine first?30:08 Eric Schmidt admits Russia leads in drones34:10 Rachel Maddow and the "Trump works for Putin" fantasy38:30 Houthis obliterate Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline44:02 Saudi Arabia can no longer sit on the fence46:16 Bahrain torpedoes the Gulf-Iran talks in Oman49:26 Why Saudi hardware can't beat the sandal army1:00:40 Hormuz convoys under fire and Trump's midterm stall1:07:49 The Mad Emperor and the most catastrophic decision in US historyGo Deeper: https://ruinsreport.com/Substack: https://conversationsamongtheruins.substack.com/Support the Conversation:Join as a Member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW9CSfmP6gEjqtOdGTD_JKw/joinBuy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/amongtheruins

  • Houthis Take the Strait | MBS Begs Trump Twice | Ukraine to Draft Women?

In 48 hours the Houthis took Taiz, the southwestern coast and the island at the narrowest point of the Bab al-Mandab, while Saudi-backed forces surrendered en masse on camera. Then came the strike that matters most: Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, the last outlet for its oil since Hormuz closed, hit at eight points. Peter explains why a movement with a budget under a billion dollars is dismantling a kingdom that spends hundreds of billions, why MBS called Trump twice and was turned down, and why the Saudi monarchy itself may not survive the loss of the checks that keep its population quiet.

We then turn to the American position: the Fifth Fleet headquarters gone, operations pulled back to Diego Garcia, an A-10 missing a wing and F-15s and Black Hawks damaged in Jordan, over 800 wounded with untreated blast injuries, and troops left as human bait until the midterms. Peter lays out his best guess for Trump's exit: a bunker-buster show on Pickaxe Mountain, whether or not anything is inside. We also cover the UK-led sanctions on West Bank settlements and Israel's furious overreaction, and the Grok genocide episode.

Finally, Ukraine. Russia's air war on ports and logistics has Zelensky offering concessions and Ukrainian business groups openly blaming Kiev. Europe says it has no money, Merz just polled 17 percent in Saxony-Anhalt, and the EU is pressuring Ukraine to conscript women and round up refugees. Peter closes with the history behind Canada's 100-year pledge to Ukraine, from the Galicia Division to the Hunka scandal.

  • Iran's Escalation Dominance | Patriots Run Dry | Ukraine Is Losing

The Strait of Hormuz has settled into a rhythm: CENTCOM hits Iranian tankers, and Iran hits back at roughly twice the rate. Five tankers struck, ten targeted in return, plus two US vessels and a massive barrage on Jordan's Muwaffaq Salti air base. Peter argues the small number of missiles aimed at US warships is the whole story. These are call shots, not kill shots, and the message is that the Navy can be reached whenever Iran decides to reach it.

Meanwhile the defensive math is collapsing. Roughly a hundred Patriot interceptors went up in a single night over Jordan, something like $400 million and two months of production burned while cluster submunitions came down anyway. The Gulf bases are already mostly abandoned, assets have shifted west to Jordan and Israel, and Jordan is now under fire too. We talk through what happens if a US warship actually goes to the bottom, why Charlie thinks there will be no rally around the flag, and why both of us expect Trump to leave the region within months while claiming he destroyed a nuclear program his own agencies say never existed.

Then the economics. The oil cliff was delayed, not cancelled: the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is at its lowest level since 1982 and below its statutory floor, diesel just passed its previous nominal record, and a third of the world's fertilizer moves through the Gulf with effects that land next spring. We finish on Ukraine, where The Spectator finally says out loud that Kyiv is losing, and on Europe, where the only plan left may be seizing $300 billion in Russian assets and shipping Ukrainian men of military age back home.
