  • Vail Festival Forum Bonus Content: LIVE with Damian Woetzel, Lil’ Buck, and Janet Eilber
Welcome to Conversations on Dance, our final bonus episode from the Vail Dance Festival with Damian Woetzel, Lil’ Buck, and Janet Eilber.  This episode is quite special because we have a guest host, Vail Dance Festival Artistic Director, Damian Woetzel.  After we had left, there was one final live event to give audiences an inside look at the artists and the performance.  In this episode, Damian is joined by Jookin dancer, Lil’ Buck and Janet Eilber, the Artistic Director of Martha Graham Dance Company.  As a side note, Buck is the cousin of this week’s Conversations on Dance guest, Ron Myles.  Check out our chat with him in episode 56.  The recording starts slightly into the event, so we join them just as Lil’ Buck begins to explain how he became involved in creating a Lamentation Variation with the Martha Graham Dance Company. They go on to have a great conversation on Martha Graham, tap, and collaboration at the Vail Dance Festival and beyond.  The first voice you will hear is Damian’s.
This recording was provided to us by the Vail Dance Festival.

  • (56) Ron “Prime Tyme” Myles, Jookin Dancer and Ambassador

This week we are joined by Ron “Prime Tyme” Myles: Jookin dancer and ambassador. Originally from Memphis, Ron is a dancer, choreographer, and an ambassador for his dance form called “Jookin.”   He is now based in Los Angeles, is a Bessie Award winner, and has appeared in numerous commercials including some for Pepsi and Adidas, and was a part of Beyonce’s epic visual album, “Lemonade.”  Memphis-born street dance prodigy and world-famous jooker, Charles “Lil Buck” Riley is Myles’ cousin, and together the pair is working to get Jookin into the main stream.  They have also been a corner stone of the Vail Dance Festival for years, and are a favorite among audiences. Today Ron tells us about Jookin and the trademark quick footwork, how he got discovered, and why spreading Jookin around the world is his priority.
