Kenton teams up with his long-time friend Neil Brodie and together they embark on a multi-pitch rock climb which pushes them both (especially Kenton) to the limit.

Situated in the stunning Aravis Alps the boys decide to take on a climb on the little frequented cliff above Le Sappey. What (on paper) should have been a mellow day out turns into a much more intense rollercoaster-like experience which Kenton has attempted to record as the day unfolds.

Two world titles and Olympic medals don’t necessarily set you up for what comes next. 

Following the London 2012 Olympics Alex stepped away from the sport that had defined him. He then spent time carving a ‘successful’ path in the city, only to find that his life lacked the purpose that he needed to live in a wholesome way.

After years of trying to find a substitute for what elite sport gave, Alex found that even the sport he loved was masking a much more deeply rooted issue.

There can be no doubt that the Matterhorn is the most iconic mountain in the world. It dominates the view from the Swiss village of Zermatt becoming a focus for Victorian era mountaineers vying for the first ascent. 

Today over 150 years later it still represents a challenge for the ambitious Alpine climber. In this world of commercialism most people employ the help of a professional mountain guide but so did Edward Whymper on the first ascent back in 1865.

Today, Billi Bierling is a renowned mountaineer. However, it wasn't always like that; in fact when she was growing up she almost felt slightly oppressed by the snowy peaks surrounding her hometown in Germany.

So what changed? Simple. A trip to Nepal in 1998, where she fell in love with the mountains and started high-altitude climbing. Since then, she has scaled six of the 14 8,000m-peaks, namely Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Manaslu (fore summit) and Broad Peak – the latter three she summited without the help of supplemental oxygen. In 2004, Billi started assisting the late Elizabeth Hawley with her work documenting expeditions to the Nepal Himalayas. Together with a team, Billi continues to interview expedition leaders for Liz Hawley's archive, which is now called 'The Himalayan Database'.

When she is not gallivanting around the high Himalayas or chasing expeditions in Kathmandu, Billi works for Swiss Humanitarian Aid as a communications expert, writes mountaineering articles for German and English-speaking magazines, translates or writes books and leads mountain treks and expeditions in Nepal and around the world. In short, she's a busy person, which makes the time she spent with Kenton recording this podcast all the more valuable.
