Thousands of government officials, scientists, and activists from nearly 200 countries are meeting in Montreal, Canada, for the UN COP15 biodiversity conference.

They are hoping to make progress on funds for conservation efforts in developing countries or on a pledge to protect 30 percent of the world's land and oceans.

The Montreal summit, which ends on December 19, is the second part of a meeting that was hosted in 2021 by China in Kunming.
