1. Covenant and circumcision aren't words we use every day, but they do play a key role in Genesis. What does chapter 17 teach us about these words and their significance for the story and people of God?

2. In what sense did God speak to Abram through the sign of circumcision?

3. What does God communicate to us through the sign of baptism? (See Romans 6:1-11)

1. Sarai's struggle to trust in God's provision and timing brought untold sorrow to her family and others. How has your struggle to trust in God's provision and timing lead to negative consequences in your own life?

2. Instead of reminding his wife of God's faithfulness, Abram went along with Sarai's foolish plan. When have you chosen cowardice over conviction and what were the consequences? In hindsight, what did you learn?

3. God approached Hagar in the midst of her shame, hurt, and need. What does this reveal to us about the heart of God? How can we imitate God's compassion to others in need?

1. In Genesis 15, Abram is struggling to believe in God's promises. In what ways are you currently struggling with God? What questions seem to haunt or plague you?

2. How would you describe the way God responds to Abram's questions? What about his response do you find surprising or encouraging?

3. Like the bloody animals reminded Abram of God's faithfulness to him, the bloody cross and the empty tomb remind us of God's faithfulness to us. How can Jesus' death and resurrection speak to your anxiety when you're not sure what God is up to in your life?

1. Take a moment to compare and contrast Abram's actions in Genesis 12 and 14. How can you identify with the inconsistencies of Abram's character?

2. How does remembering the promises and works of God lead to courage and conviction in daily life? What are some ways that you need to grow in these areas?

3. Abram's tithe demonstrated the superiority of Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:6-7). What things in your life can demonstrate the superiority of Jesus?

1. Genesis introduces us to the call of Abram. Take a moment to share or write out the story of how you were called.

2. The call of Abram required a total reorientation of Abram's life. How has the the call to be a disciple of Jesus reoriented your life? How are things different? What still needs to change?

3. Just as Abram was called into God's global mission, we are also called to participate in God's global mission. What has this looked like for you? Do you have a sense of what this might look like for you in the future?

1. What are the Works of the Devil? How are these works evident in the world around us and in our personal life?

2. God’s Wrath is "revealed against all unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). Sometimes we think of God’s wrath as opposed to his love - is this an accurate way to think about it? How might the Cross reveal God’s wrath against the “Works of the Devil” as an expression of his love?

3. How does the Crucifixion of Jesus destroy the works of the devil? In what way is this already accomplished, and in what ways in this not yet accomplished?

4. How does knowing that Jesus’ Crucifixion was a victory over evil and sin in order to deliver us from the “domain of darkness and transfer us into the kingdom of his Beloved Son” (Col. 1:13) change the way that we consider our relationship to sin?
