First half of the game, and the A’s came out swinging. Lawrence Butler crushed a homer on the very first pitch Brady Singer threw, setting fire early. Singer tried to settle but Carlos Cortes joined the assault—homering off him in the third, and then doing it again in the eighth off a different pitcher. The A’s piled up the power with three solo homers, and despite Reds threats, never let anything stick. 

On the mound it was all A’s. J.T. Ginn left in the fifth with a leg issue, but not before threading through trouble early and keeping Cincinnati scoreless. The bullpen—led by Tyler Ferguson, Hogan Harris, and Newcomb—closed out the game without letting up. The Reds couldn’t scratch across a run, collecting six hits but coming up empty. Now the A’s take Game 1, leaving Cincinnati to wonder what could’ve been.
