Ever wondered how the winter solstice and other solar festivals can spark a personal transformation within you? The word Solstice comes from the Latin words “Sol stetit” which mean literally: “the Sun stood still.” Did you know that the equinoxes and solstices happen at the same moment around the world? Even though we all have different time zones, this is an astronomical event, based on our planet’s orbit around the Sun and tilt on its axis.

The custom of lighting bonfires at the Solstice was not exclusive to Europe, it also occurred in other locations around the world including North Africa and the Americas.  The sanctioned and coordinated release of procreative energy served two important functions:  1) I strengthened the bonds within the community and 2) served to stimulate and revitalize the land.

The Solstices were celebrated by our ancestors for many reasons, notably as a license for sexual proclivities encouraged at this time to bless the fertility and abundance of the earth.  The solstices were a time of honoring the forces or order and light, the divine feminine and masculine, paying tribute to Mother Earth and Father Sun.  Solstices were times to celebrate the polarities of bringing people of the planet in sync with the cycles of nature. The Solstice and equinoxes (solar festivals), as well as the full moon (lunar festivals) were celebrated for bringing orderly rhythms to Earth, allowing her people an opportunity to harmonize these rhythms through ritual, dance and festivity.

The Winter Solstice has always been a time to pray for the return of order and light, while the Summer Solstice is a time to celebrate and give thanks for abundance.  The Ancients knew that human beings exist in much larger ecological and cosmic systems and must abide by the rules of those systems if we are to survive.  The Solstices are ideal times to acknowledge and celebrate our responsibilities to these greater realms of Being. 

 We still have remnants from the European Winter Solstice with our updated version of the ancient visitation of the Solstice Shaman who we’ve renamed “Santa Claus.” 

In this episode we explore how these solar celebrations serve as catalysts for personal renewal. As we chant the Great Invocation, we'll collectively call forth divine love and light to guide us and restore Earth's balance. With your active participation, we can bring more light into our lives and the planet. November will be much less disruptive and disturbing than October, as the eclipse chips fall where they may.  We still ride the spooky Scorpio wave, as Sun, Mars, Mercury, and New Moon are all in Scorpio in the beginning of the month exposing secret scenarios.

Scorpionic Sun seeps into early November, accompanied by planets Mars, Mercury and the Moon (on November 11-13) slinking through the serpent’s sign of Scorpio. The veil between worlds is thin as the Day of the Dead eerily ushers in a month of revelations and reactivity.

Saturn forward pulses in Pisces on November 4, opening floodgates of emotion, compassion, and cleaning karmic conundrums that have been brewing for the past few months. Saturn transiting direct in Pisces, picks up the pace, gets us in the groove, and we can go with the flow.  Creative projects that were put on the back burner can now flow forth.  Spiritual inclinations and higher self contact can be enhanced, consciousness shifts abound. 

Venus ventures out of Virgo and leaps into Libra, her home court on November 8-December 4th.  The Goddess is back, holding court, sending Shakti of Love, Light and Healing.  Venus in Libra doesn’t approve of these Martial aggressive situations she sees brewing in the world. She is in cahoots with the South Node transiting Libra to bring balance, negotiations of Peace, and be the PEACE she wants to see in the world.  Venus in Libra is looking for Love and wants to play.  Venus is distressed about all the wars and aggression in the world.

Scorpio New Moon seeps in on 11/13 with Sun and Moon conjunct Mars (warrior)  and Ceres (the nurturer) in Scorpio as well.  Something will come to the surface that has been hidden for months and could be a game changer.  Hidden agendas and players behind the scenes are exposed. The Sun, Moon, Mars and Ceres are opposed to Uranus in Taurus transiting retrograde. Be prepared for surprising events or shocking news to come to light

Welcome on a journey of enlightenment as we celebrate the Goddess of Prosperity, Lakshmi, in a breathtaking Cosmic Scene. Diwali is a festival of Light, and is one of the favorite festivals of Hindus which falls every year between the months of October-November.  It is celebrated with joy all over India venerating Lakshmi, the Vedic Goddess of prosperity.  Lakshmi inspires much devotion. Many of her names, Padma, Kamala, and Ambuja refer to the lotus.  The lotus has powerful symbolism.  While its roots are in the mud, its stalk rises clearly through the murky water, with its petals blossoming above, untouched by the mud.  It is a symbol for rising above the material world through divinity, of being good in midst of negative influences.  Like the lotus, the Goddess of Prosperity, Lakshmi, shows us how to access material wealth, or transcend it to gain spiritual progress. She is often shown with four hands, which are mean to represent the four goals of life according to the Vedas:  Kama (love), Artha (wealth), Dharma (right purpose) and Moksha (liberation).
Lakshmi wears a red sari, with gold thread, representing wealth, beauty and fertility. Coins rains down from her palms, as she smiles blissfully.
