The beginning of the Millar-verse on Netflix, we got through all eight episodes of the brand new Jupiter's Legacy adaptation and we were... well, kind of underwhelmed. But I guess that'll happen when you spend 8 hours on 2 comic issues. Come hear what worked, what didn't, and what we hope to get from a (maybe?) season 2.
It's pop culture references, denied sneezes, and a very hungry Chris for this week's episode! Oh, and we talk about some excellent new books, too. But I mean, you're really here for our dissertation on how much less Clark must make than Lois, right?
Holy heck, this game is FANTASTIC! A relatively recent release from Unexpected Games, this board game mixes mystery tropes, comics, engaging characters, creative gameplay and well-placed surprises to be one of the most fun games we've played in a long time. But hey, we'll get into all that. In the meantime, what are you waiting for? Go get this game!
Whether you're looking for a new(ish) twist on the Justice League (Chips Ahoy!), or an unexpected direction for time travel, we've got a whole lot of very cool stories this week.
Potentially our coolest episode ever, we had the opportunity to chat with Pat Shand, author of Destiny, NY - a book we recently talked about on the show! He shares his experience as a writer, what it was like to Kickstart a graphic novel, and what exciting things are coming up next for him in the comic world. This is NOT one to miss!
Not sure what to get Mom this Mother's Day? Here's a handful of excellent titles, ranging from deep looks into societal flaws, to pulpy endeavors on pirate ships, to gruesome body horror... look, Mom isn't all scented candles, you guys.
Brubaker and Phillips are at it again with another excellent installment in the Reckless series! This time set in the 80s against some really bad dudes, Ethan takes on a mystery from the Hollywood underbelly that will shake up his whole life. Beautifully written, beautifully drawn, this book is a great sophomore edition to the pulpy franchise.
What happens when you drop a traditional tabletop RPG crew, complete with bard and fighter and wizard (oh my!), into a traditional Aztec setting? We don't know yet either, but we're really excited to find out! That and more on this weeks episode (and our theory on Robin's new name... fingers crossed!) - check it out now!
Oh heavens, there's some real heavy talk up in this episode. Political commentary, moral quandaries, emotional turmoil - important books make us have important discussions, but take solace in the fact that we still end with a debate on flare leg jeans, okay?
Indie titles are really flexing on taking older tropes and stories and completely flipping them upside down. This week, we've got a "super" spin on post-apocalyptic wastelands, a bloody take on horror anthologies, the corporate prequel to the zombie sequel, and the hidden figures behind good old Supes' himself. Man, we love indie books.
