"You’re not depressed, you’re just tired!" Why can't my Asian parents understand mental health?
In many Asian communities, mental health is often seen as a weakness and a disgrace to the family honour. We hope by initiating this conversation, we’re able to help destigmatise it and provide some advice for anyone who might be in a tough situation where both their mental health and family values are conflicting.

MasterChef Australia alumni, Dumpling King and LGBTQIA+ role model, Brendan Pang, has accomplished so much at such a young age.
The Australian-Chinese-Mauritian cook first rose to fame when he competed on Season 10 of MasterChef Australia and showcased his multiethnic culture and cuisine. After finishing in ninth place, he opened up his own dumpling truck Bumplings in Fremantle, Western Australia. He then returned on MasterChef: Back to Win in 2020 - the season that has been praised for its diversity in judges, contestants and ingredients. Brendan recently launched his very own cookbook This is a Book About Dumplings.
The dumpling master has also become a voice for those in the LGBTQIA+ community after bravely coming out as a gay male on social media. Plus, he is a proud mental health advocate after revealing he suffered from anxiety for many years. These are two topics that are often suppressed in the Asian community.

Strict Asian mum - does that unlock any memories? This episode is an ode to the ‘tiger mum’, a concept coined by Yale Law Professor Amy Chua. We discuss the characteristics of a tiger mum and how it differs to a regular strict parent. We also share some of the beautiful things our mums did that makes us incredibly thankful to have them in our lives.
Let this episode be a reminder to reach out to your mum (and family in general), especially if Covid has separated you. To those in Australia, Happy Mother's Day for Sunday May 8!

#STOPASIANHATE. There is a heartbreaking surge of violence against the AAPI people across the globe, particularly in the US. Spurred on by the racist notion of the ‘China Virus’, anyone who looks Asian seems to be the target against racial abuse both verbal, physical and at its worst, fatal.
We welcome you to send us your thoughts on this tragic topic. You can DM us on Insta @crazybiatchasians or send us an email via [email protected]
