Our guest this week is my good friend Dimi Lazarou. He is always pioneering new techniques and new technologies. He has been using AI (Artificial Intelligence) for years. He started making images before anyone else I knew was doing it. He has also figured out ways to use text and visual based AI to get the results he desires.

This might scare you. As I write this there is a writers strike happening in America in the entertainment industry. Some of the writer's demands have to do with AI and how it is used in the industry.

There are a lot of ways AI will be useful to us. There are some jobs that AI will render obsolete. As we continue to advance do you find yourself embracing new technologies or resisting?

We are continuing with the Where are They Now series. There is no doubt my guest this week was top on my list. Amarilys Henderson is probably my favorite Skillshare teacher. She is an author, an illustrator, an artist who sells her items in her shop on her site, but also licenses her work, she has a community, and has teaches classes on her own platform. She has had some big shifts in her teaching and her art licensing that we'll talk about.

Amarilys is inspiring to me for many reasons, here are five:

1. Her faith is at the center of her work.

2. She is always trying something new.

3. She has multiple income streams.

4. She doesn't give up. She is exploring and experimenting.

5. She shares what she knows, freely and is super easy to talk to and relate to.

There are so many benefits of having a regular creative practice. Starting your own challenge, celebrating during a specific month, or even joining in with others during something like inktober aids you in getting better.

This week we talk to my friend Dameon Williams. He is an illustrator, UX designer who is someone I look up to. His creative learning practice is something I have been trying to emulate. Dameon makes learning and mastering a new technique or tool look easy. But he has been practicing learning and developing his flexibility with illustration and illustration tools for years.

He has tackled the ABC's of February challenge for the past few years. Dameon has come up with unique ways to highlight Black History month by featuring historical figures, inventions, and cultural influences in his daily illustrations and informative posts.

This is the perfect time to do this episode as this month we are lifting people, encouraging others, and this week is focused on you.

Week 3 is RECHARGE

Maybe you are like me and I am so far down on my to-do list I never prioritize myself and sometimes even my own business. I can't tell you how many Robin Landa books I own. I even have multiple copies of the same book. That is how much I love what Robin creates. This book was no different. I have the physical copy and the audible version.

Robin Landa is a professor, an author, a designer, and an inspiration. She has written over 20 books (25 I think), I use them with clients, in my creative practice, and in my research. This book was great at setting a framework for new ideas. It gives suggestions on how to tackle projects differently. There are tons of stories and examples inside the pages.

Back in 2018 my friend Kim Panella and I decided to take the month of February to love on our friends, mentors, co-workers and people starting in the field, also taking a week to do some self-love. This is not limited to Designers only but any Creative.

WEEK 1 is ENERGIZE

Take someone to coffee, bring someone an espresso, soda, or red bull.

Post an energizing quote and tag a friend who could use some energizing (remember to use the #loveondesigners tag)

This week I have an old friend and fellow creative entrepreneur, Brian Perry. Brian is a singer, songwriter, life-coach, and author. We are going to talk about his latest book, "The Myth of Certainty" and his journey with mental health.

As we wrap up this month of focusing on getting our thoughts and minds in a place that works for us not against us, we talk about where we thought we'd be. Often our dreams and our ability to create a plan to get us to that dream is unclear or fuzzy.

There were so many moments in the book where I was hit by stingers that I had been through, or things I am facing. Being an entrepreneur, sacrificing so many things, and getting beat down by by inner critic is hard. We are going to talk about how Brian has made a difference, kept going, and taken on new challenges despite how hard it can be.

I often tell myself things I should be doing, or things I should be improving, or things I should be learning. But there are only 24 hours in everyday and we are supposed to sleep for one third of those hours.

I am teaching a class about self promotion on social media. In class I asked the students how they use social media. Most stated that they consume but rarely share. If they do share it is not their design work.

They said they were scattered and weren't sure what to post. One student said he posts things he is proud of.

And I thought afterwards, if I waited until I was proud of something I would never post either.

Social Media and self promotion like any campaign should be planned. UH OH there I go shoulding again.

The question is how do I share what I am learning and not feel like a fraud or an imposter. If I tell myself I will start sharing when I don't feel like an imposter, I will probably never start sharing.
