Aubrey speaks to Dr. Mamokete Modiba, Senior Researcher at the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO), about a study they conducted after the government, last year, declared a national disaster after food-borne illness outbreak claimed the lives of over 20 children and hospitalised hundreds. The government response to the outbreak of food-borne illnesses addresses the immediate crisis but does not address underlying factors affecting low-income settlements.
