Every second that passes, every hour that elapses, every flip of the calendar puts us closer to the time of the Lord's return or to our appointment with death. According to the CDC, one death occurs in the United States every 10 seconds. By the time you finish listening to this 54-minute program, 324 people will have been ushered into eternity. Some recognize their present health condition reveals there is not much time left. For others, death comes by total surprise due to an auto collision, a heart attack, an aneurism, a freak accident or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We just don't know when our appointment with death will occur. This is what compels believers in Christ to share the Gospel. It was another active news week. Here's your chance to get caught up via our Friday News Round-Up and Comment broadcast. Below are several highlights: --Jim began with news concerning a possible asylum hearing for William Whatcott, a pro-family activist who is a Canadian refugee in the U.S. He appeared on Crosstalk on September 24th. Jim provided audio updating listeners on his case, as well as a phone number to contact the Office of the Inspector General which is over DHS and ICE. --The town council of Ottumwa, Iowa, opened a meeting with a prayer to hail satan. However, a pastor was having none of it. Jim presented audio of the pastor's comments. --President Trump announced that the U.S. will not launch additional military strikes on Iran before the mid-term elections. --The senior Iranian commander has threatened to strike American military bases and warships across the Middle East if President Trump orders a ground invasion of Iran --Iran's oil minister has resigned. --Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that Iran's grip on the Strait of Hormuz has significantly weakened in recent weeks as oil flows approach pre-war levels. --U.S. and French authorities have dismantled an international financing network accused of raising millions of dollars for Hamas, while presenting fundraising campaigns to donors as being humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza. --Iran-backed Houthi rebels intensified ballistic missile attacks against Saudi Arabia's capital of Riyadh on Thursday, disrupting international flights, threatening critical infrastructure, and raising fears of a broader regional war.

Dr. Andy Woods is president of Chafer Theological Seminary & senior pastor of Sugar Land Bible Church in Houston. He's also a lawyer, a speaker at numerous Bible conferences, as well as an author of several books including the one discussed on this broadcast: The Bible and Your Vote: Biblical Principles for any Election. Before elections in recent years you may have heard someone say, "This is the most important election in our lifetimes!" In other words, there's some sense with many people that the consequences of such elections are greater than ever. In spite of this, there are many who make the following excuses not to vote: They claim their vote doesn't count. They believe their citizenship is in heaven, therefore they don't vote on the earth. Some believe that if they vote for the lesser of two evils, they're still voting for evil, therefore they feel obligated not to participate. God puts into office who he wills, therefore some people feel they must step aside and not get in the way. Review this broadcast, and you'll see why such excuses are not biblical, as Dr. Woods kicks things off by looking at voting as a matter of stewardship. From there he continues on by looking at other issues related to voting including economic, social, climate, power/personal rights, foreign policy and more. Listeners brought their questions and comments to the discussion as well.

Following the dictates of the Quran such as 5:51 – "O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and Nasara (Christians) as friends." There's 9:73: "O you prophet, perform jihad against the infidels and the hypocrites, and be harsh with them. And their abode will be hell, and evil is the final place." There's 47:4: "So when you meet those who became infidels, so strike the necks until you have made a great slaughter among them." Lastly, there's 25:52: "So do not obey the infidels, and perform jihad against them with a big jihad." That's exactly what took place, three years ago today, when the Islamic terrorist group Hamas launched the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. On that day nearly 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 people taken hostage. As Jihad Watch pointed out, "Terrorists burned people and pets alive, children among them, looted homes, set houses and neighborhoods on fire, took civilians and bodies and filmed it. One terrorist called his parents from a victim's phone and said he had butchered ten Jews, including the woman whose phone he had taken and her husband." The article continued, "...they shot civilians on the roads, in shelters and at intersections then drove on to the communities. They shot the old, fathers and mothers with children, and teenagers. They also killed whoever was in the way, including foreign workers." The attacks against Israel continue…

The response directed him to Wikipedia which stated, "The term deep state refers to an unauthorized, hidden network of power that operates within a government independently of its elected leaders to pursue its own goals." It went on to say as to its core, "It describes unelected state officials, bureaucrats, or military and intelligence personnel who supposedly influence or control government policy behind the scenes. In yet another place it refers to the deep state as being a political conspiracy theory that "posits the existence of a deep state within the US federal government, primarily composed of members of the FBI and CIA. Proponents argue that a clandestine network of conspirators within the leadership of the financial and industrial sectors exercise power alongside or within the elected government."

Dr. David Brown is Pastor Emeritus of the First Baptist Church in Oak Creek. He has a Master's in Theology and a PhD in History specializing in the history of the English Bible. It is very easy in our society to take what we have for granted. We can go into a dark home and flip a switch and we have light. That person was William Tyndale. He's been renowned as "the father of the English Bible" and is recognized as one of the major leaders of the English Reformation. He became one of the most wanted men in England and all of Europe, even pursued by the king himself. It's the 500th anniversary of the Tyndale New Testament and tomorrow is the 490th anniversary of Tyndale's death. So don't miss this historical overview of the life and legacy of William Tyndale so that you can grasp the amount of sacrifice that went into the formation of our English Bible.

Here are some highlights: --Republican Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has halted executions through the rest of the year after officials failed to successfully administer two separate doses of the lethal injection to Christa Gail Pike. --An Indian airline captain, who was at the controls of his airliner, was stabbed by his co-pilot in an apparent attempt to crash the plane. Although he was seriously injured, he still managed to open the cockpit door allowing passengers to enter and restrain the attacking co-pilot as the Boeing 737 was descending sharply. The flight was carrying people from Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Tel Aviv, Israel. --A dual Iranian/British citizen was arrested by counter-terrorism police in Britain in the wake of an allegedly foiled plot to attack a U.S. air base on British soil last weekend. --Iranian officials and state media said that the U.S. had responded to Tehran's recent proposal for a 7 day cease-fire and the phased re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz with a counter proposal that the government is now considering. --The oil is flowing in the Persian Gulf even as Iran is choking on fumes. Oil exports from the region have rebounded to 72% of pre-war levels and crude flow through the Strait of Hormuz is a little under half of what it was before the war, according to analysts. --The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran will not back down on the terms of a 7 day cease-fire, "even if it comes to a doomsday war."

Christian Gomez is co-director of Operations for the John Birch Society and is a contributor for The New American. He currently co-hosts the JbS web-series, BiRCH'N the USA. For some time there's been a lot of controversy, even among conservatives, about a Constitutional Convention, or a ConCon for short. According to Christian, the term, "Constitutional Convention" has been in our legal vernacular for over a century. You can go back to the 2nd edition of Black's Law Dictionary published in 1910 and on to the most current editions published today. They define "Constitutional Convention" as, "A duly constituted assembly of delegates or representatives of the people of a state or nation for the purpose of framing, revising or amending its constitution." So terms such as "Article V Convention" or "Constitutional Convention" are interchangeable, historical terms. However, lately (since about 2010 or 2011), there's been a movement in favor of a convention. They rename their efforts in more flattering fashion by using phrases such as "Convention of States" or "Convention of the States." Whatever phrase you want to use, some indicate this is needed in order to balance the budget or to limit the power of Congress or to change what are perceived as outdated rules. Are there dangers lurking about within such efforts that could subvert the Constitution? You decide what motives might be involved when you review this important edition of Crosstalk.
