John, aka Sonny or The Dog, Wojtowicz was a charismatic, charming and eccentric man. When he fell in love with Elizabeth (Liz) Eden, he would do anything for her. Including rob a bank, hold eight hostages for 14 hours, and get his friend killed in the process. Liz needed gender confirmation surgery, and like today, it was expensive. John saw it as a way to save her life and so, in the name of love, he attempted to rob the Chase bank in the Gravesend district of Brooklyn. Later, a movie, Dog Day Afternoon starring Al Paccino would go on to fund Liz's much needed surgeries and John would claim himself a hero, a real Robin Hood. But was he?

Pauline Parker and Juliet Hume became fast friends, bonding over their shared health problems. An intense friendship developed, worrying both girls' parents. When Juliet's parents divorced, they thought to separate the girls, sending Juliet to South Africa. Unable to bear being apart, the girls hatched a  murder plot in order to stay together. We explore one of New Zealand's most notorious murder cases that inspired Peter Jackson, director of Lord of the Rings, to make the movie Heavenly Creatures about Pauline and Juliet.
