As If One Fall Wasn’t Enough, Modern, ‘Murican Man Had To Go And Make The Fall Great Again – It is always exciting to me when I read an accurate description of our modern state of affairs and culture that does not rely on a political explanation and thus naturally knows there is no “policy” prescription that can serve as the remedy because there is but One Remedy (caps intended). Jeremy Kee, in his review of Romano Guardini’s classic “The End of The Modern World” is one of those moments and you should read the whole thing. Here’s an excerpt.

Man, in other words, has by his own choosing entered into a self-imposed existential exile. His view of what was naturalshifted with his view of himself. No longer was nature something within which man lived by which he was defined; rather it was now something man created, directed, and to which he offered definition. What was once his highest faculty was now his contempt. [emphasis mine, M.C.]

Romano also notes that the technology we have unleashed, because it has not the restraining force that Christianity once placed on it, is now in control of man and not the other way around.

The man engaged today in the labor of ‘technics’ knows full well that technology moves forward in final analysis neither for profit nor for the well-being of the race. He knows in the most radical sense of the term that power is its motive—a lordship of all, so that man seizes hold of the naked elements of both nature and human nature.

“If they fine me, I won’t pay it. If they put me in jail, I’ll go on a hunger strike. I’m not doing this. And that’s that. I’m not using the words that other people require me to use. Especially if they’re made up by radical left-wing ideologues.”

Those who say this is much ado about nothing don’t understand what is at play here: the final act in the 20 century long campaign to rid the world of the shreds of Christianity, the God Man who is its King and the omnipotent Creator . The final rejection of God’s Created world and order is what’s on trial here and even though they cannot face actual repeal, grave damage can be done in the attempt, very grave damage indeed.

Mandeville, LA – Give Thanks To Old Dishonest Abe For Giving Us “Thanksgiving”!? – Jayme Metzgar heaps praise upon the scion of true liberty, Ol’ Dishonest Abe Lincoln, for urging the ‘Muircans of 1863, 1864 to “give thanks” and thus giving us the first real Thanksgivings we are about to enjoy. Metzgar’s praise of Lincoln is also a praise of the disorder created by the secular “nation” ‘Muricah was created as, then there’s this.

“Perhaps most noteworthy is the clear religious tone of the Thanksgiving proclamations. Lincoln did not call for vague, general gratitude of the sort we find in modern Hallmark cards. Rather, he called for “thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens,” and even more strongly in 1864, “thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe.”

This is unvarnished, Christ defying idolatry, so common at the time and now taken as a universal boon. But how can this religiosity and love of God have come from the man who was orchestrating the systemic subjugation of a nation, the Confederacy, at the end of a Gatling gun? Lincoln and his radical Republicans greed for exploiting the resources of the South and its people resulted in Total War theory, 843,000 dead and the birth of the totalitarian state we toil under today.

But Wait, Mitter Chur, Lincoln Started The War of Northern Aggression Didn’t He!? – According to historian james Oakes, Lincoln and his radical Republican buddies actually DID start the war and for the reasons originally stated: To end Constitutional protection of slavery.

“Coming out of the 1860 election, Republicans declared that there were two possible policies. The first was to make freedom national and restrict slavery to the states where it already existed. Republican policymakers would seal off the South: they would no longer enforce the Fugitive Slave Clause; slavery would be suppressed on the high seas; it would be abolished in Washington DC, banned from all the Western territories, and no new slave states would be admitted to the Union. A “cordon of freedom” would surround the slave states. Then Republicans would offer a series of incentives to the border states where slavery was weakest: compensation, subsidies for voluntary emigration of freed slaves, a gradual timetable for complete abolition.”

How’s that for an updated history lesson, but wait, the next part is even more secular, “Christian”, star spangled awesome.

The South would simply have to accept this. And if it couldn’t tolerate such a federal policy, it could leave the Union. But once it seceded, all bets would be off — it would lose the Constitutional protections that it had previously enjoyed. The Republicans would then implement the second policy: direct military emancipation, immediate and uncompensated.

Take that rednecks! Either do what we say or we will claim we are justified in invading, killing and subjugating you into submission. And we wonder why it is so easy for ‘Muricans to commit similar atrocities across the globe.

Mandeville, LA – The Family Research Council’s Coddling Of The Gay Goodman – I’ve written and talked about the fact that our “democratic system” is founded upon the warped principle that men can govern themselves with no external, higher authority needed. If that were a system that produced virtuous men, then the in-office sexual antics of Bill Clinton not only would not occur but would not be tolerated. Now comes the news that a GOP rising star in Ohio, Wes Goodman, is a pederast with a behind closed doors habit of propositioning boys for sex. This news is bad enough for supporters of Goodman who bills himself as a champion of the family but the fact that the Family Research Council was a supporter of Goodman’s and knew of his homosexual philandering (Goodman is married) but continued to support him is a bombshell. The fall of our glorious “republic” is being led by a generation of men who cannot bring themselves to be real men, imbued with the courage of their Christian convictions or even the nature of their gender.

Why Do Evangelicals Need To “Escape Roy Moore’s Evangelicalism”? – This is the quest proposed by Molly Worthen in Sunday’s NY Times. Worthen’s piece has some nuggets in it for those returning to the ancient form of the Catholic Latin Mass and the traditions that surround it.

“When I sought out conservative and progressive critics of white evangelical politics and asked them how to best understand it, this was their answer: pay attention to worship, both inside and outside of church, because the church is not doing its job. Humans thrive on ritual and collective acts of devotion. And the way we worship has political consequences. It shapes our response to evil and our reaction to people different from ourselves.”

That’s right! The phrase Worthen is looking for but does not use is “lex credendi, lex orandi”.

According to Prosper of Aquitaine, legem credendi lex statuat supplicandi, which is to say, ‘the law of prayer determines the law of belief’ 

“Mitter Chur, please, this has nothing to do with evangelicals and Roy Moore or Christians in ‘Muricah!” Oh but it does, because what happens inside sacred spaces, even if they are just perceived as sacred, has direct bearing on what happens outside of the sacred space because the sacred space is supposed to serve as the beau ideal of human acts and behavior. As Saint Prosper wrote:

Let us be mindful also of the sacraments of priestly public prayer, which handed down by the Apostles are uniformly celebrated in the whole world and in every Catholic Church, in order that the law of supplication may support the law of believing.
