Dion has a really interesting story, he comes from a family of writers and academics and he said that he was kind of the black sheep in the family and that doing things like starting a business and running a business was just not something that you did in his family.

He did it anyway, and he actually went on to build the business to a point where it was a saleable asset, and late last year he sold the company.

In this episode, Dion shares with us his journey, how he went about selling the company and he shares with us what things businesses should be doing to try and prepare for a successful sale as well.

John and I had a really cool conversation and I enjoyed our time together. We touched on a range of topics, including things like, why are we seeing so many insolvencies at the minute, we spoke about their FAIR Program which is an initiative to bring forward a national consistent approach to implementing broad industry reforms.

We also touched on why we're not seeing enough women entering the construction industry and the labor shortages in general. All in all, basically what we tried to do was solve the world's problems in a 30 minute podcast.

This week I'm speaking with Michael Hatton. Michael is the founder and managing director of Total Surveying Solutions based in Sydney. Michael is a really interesting guy and in this episode we talk about his career.

We also talk about some of the struggles that he faced in the beginning, trying to get the business off the ground and how he  managed to get buy-in from his employees in those early stages and then eventually how he transitioned to getting those employees to buy into the bigger picture of the company so that he could eventually get more of a management structure in place and eventually become a director and sort of step back from the day-to-day running of the business.
