Hi! We had so much to chat about this week so we had to do a mid-week record. Yay!
First up, Joe Jonas, Instagram influencer, is the star of a strange injectables campaign. We discuss why the boy-band member would've done this, the impact of men being dragged into modern beauty ideals and the funny nature of the ad. We reference this article by Dazed Beauty titled “The hypocrisy of Joe Jonas’s bizarre injectables campaign” by Alex Peters.
Next, we speak about ultra nepo babies, Nicola and Brooklyn Peltz-Beckham and the supposed feud between Nicola’s famous mother-in-law Victoria Beckham.
Our unproblematic fave has made headlines this week for being… problematic. Harry Styles has come under fire for queerbaiting. We break down the comments that came from his Rolling Stones interview and reference these TikToks. We also hear from our friend and colleague Matty Galea who wrote a great piece for PTV titled As Both A Gay Man & Harry Styles Fan, I Dunno How To Feel About His Comments On Queerbaiting
Olivia Wilde is the cover star of Variety magazine with Olivia’s Wilde Ride: Directing ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ Making Harry Styles a Movie Star and Being ‘Blown the F— Away’ by Florence Pugh by Elizabeth Wagmeister. For our recommendations, Jas brings a heavy article for Good Weekend titled ‘Simmering beneath the surface’: The awful spike in eating disorders during lockdown by Chip De Grand for Good Weekend to the table, while Maggie recommends Happy Hour by Marlowe Granados.
Katie Zhou created our cover art & India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram @cultureclubpod.

We reference this Florence Pugh interview with Harpers Bazaar.

Hello!
This week the drummer from Motley Crue and one half of the infamous Pam and Tommy duo posted a full-frontal pic of his schlong on Instagram. We reference this article by Matty Galea for PTV titled, It’s Fkd Women Are Routinely Scrubbed From IG But Tommy Lee & Andrew Tate Can Pollute Our Feed.
Millie Bobby Brown has given a 3-hour interview to Allure and has opened up about her relationship with social media, fame and her toxic ex. This opens up a conversation around Millie being woman’d. We reference this Refinery29 article titled Being ‘Woman’d’ Is Becoming A Depressing Inevitability For Us All by Ione Gamble.
The trailer has been released for House of Hammer, a new documentary series focusing on actor Armie Hammer, his abuse allegations and his family. At the same time, the trailer for Timothee Chalamet’s new film ‘Bones and All’ was released which is a love story… about cannibalism. Is this clever marketing or an innocent coincidence?
Jennette McCurdy, former costar of iCarly and Sam & Cat, has recently published a tell-all memoir called “I’m Glad My Mom Died”. We discuss the book which turns into an open convo around jealousy in friendships. We reference Shameless' newsletter where writer Madison Griffiths wrote an advice column on jealousy. Last week, Yahoo! Life published an interview with Jojo Siwa, where she talked about disliking the term ‘lesbian’. We ask if this is internalised homophobia or just a young person finding their way.
New research has emerged this week around celebrities' jet emissions and this time, golden girl Taylor Swift is under fire. We detail the singer’s CO2 pollution and her other criticisms including her involvement with Where The Crawdads Sing. We reference this piece in The Atlantic.

Next, Emma Chamberlain and Addison Rae seem to have taken a different direction when it comes to new photoshoots styled by Australian artist Gadir Rajab. This causes us to ask if a high fashion editorial is the new brand makeover.

The Internet loves to put labels on aesthetics but what happens when it becomes problematic? Over social media, there’s been a rise of “naarmcore”. We share three TikToks, one from user @punisher.mp3, one from Clothing The Gaps’ Sianna Catullo, and another from Tariq Junaid Ismat AKA @literallykatebush.
Tariq has spoken out as an Indigenous person on why “Naarmcore” isn’t an aesthetic, especially a white one. Tariq also shared their thoughts with us in a little interview, so we thank them for their time. In this section we reference a piece in Fashion Journal titled The problem with ‘Naarmcore’, TikTok’s latest fashion aesthetic by writer Hazel Lee.
You can listen to our previous interview with Sianna here and don’t forget to go beyond Instagram and Pay the Rent.

Next, North West turned nine and attended Paris Haute Couture Week with her mum and grandmother. Some moments from the show went viral, causing us to ask, are we playing into the exploitation of a literal child? Or is this a funny moment from the most famous family in the world. It results in a conversation around modern meme culture.
