Cyclops is Waiting for Me - An X-Men: The Animated Series Weekly Recap

We've been wondering where Kurt has been since his quick scene in the pilot episode. We get the answer along with a surprise appearance from the Pirates of Dark Wa- we mean everyone's favorite trans-dimensional TV executive's crack team of recruiters.
Cyclops is Waiting for Me is our now bi-weekly podcast series where we are going back and watching EVERY-SINGLE-X-MEN-ANIMATED-EPISODE we can find. This podcast started with the original 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series building up to the release of X-Men ‘97. Along the way we’ve completed X-Men: Evolution and launched our companion interview show The Xavier Files!

Since season 2 of X-Men ‘97 isn’t announced yet for 2025, we are dedicating this year to all of Wolverine & The X-Men.

So our "mission of the week" framing theory goes out the window as no Professor X drops in from the future. Instead, our favorite swamp rat Gambit breaks into the mansion to steal a power inhibitor (which proves to be a massive issue for every version of Forge ever).

Future Professor X's Mission of the Week kicks off with Logan and crew sent to save the ENTIRE continent of Africa because Storm is going to do "something" and it's going to be a big something. Listen up as the boys talk about this Storm focused episode and how it compares to the way her history has been shown in other X-Men cartoons.

While we haven't found out what has happened one year prior to the events of Wolverine and the X-Men, we find out part of Xavier's fate and the formal debut of WatX's version of Magneto. Rod and JC are in for the ride for the rest of this season (and really hoping we don't get hit with a cliffhanger...). Despite the first sentinel being pulled right from Spider-Man '94, things heat up with the WatX debuts of the Brotherhood (including Domino) and formal introductions to Iceman, Kitty and this very interesting version of Rogue. The end of 2025 feels like it is already going to be rough considering how strong this series is kicking off!

2024 was quite a year for mutants. This year, 2025 will be dedicated for Cyclops is Waiting for Me to Wolverine and the X-Men. Much like X-Men: Evolution, Rod and JC missed this one during it's original airing but we are already hooked with the show's mystery and the big super hero feel of it. In Hindsight, we missed out.

Thank you for joining JC and Rod on this X-Men: Evolution journey. While we were fully prepared for a full on cliffhanger, we were pleasantly surprised with how the series wrapped up. Sadly, we would have loved to see more of this. Join us for one last X-Men: Evolution discussion talking about the 2nd of the two part series finale and our favorite characters and moments of the series.

Oh, and see you in 2025 as we move to a bi-weekly schedule for Wolverine and the X-Men!

It all comes down to this. The two part series finale of X-Men: Evolution brings most of the stories to a head with Apocalypse and a scheme to activate all the world's dormant X-genes. Join Rod and JC in these final two episodes of Evolution (including next week) as we get to look at the end of a series with 20 years of hindsight to compare to.

X-Men: Evolution has shown just how much potential the New Mutants can have with this final episode before the series finale with the introduction of Danielle Moonstar. And we get a guest appearance from friend of the pod and someone who makes JC's Pokemon fanaticism look like rookie stuff, Kellie Faciane-Whisler, aka PokeKellz. While some "rules" may get broken in the episode, this one took us on a ride and we loved having Kellie join us for it!

You can't have an X-Men cartoon series that doesn't dedicate at least one episode to the relationship between Rogue and Gambit. And while hot goth Rogue and fboy facial hair Gambit aren't the same as their comic counterparts, it's about time we got to see them spending some time embracing southern hospitality.
