TODAY’S READING: Leviticus 12–14.

WORD OF THE DAY: Clean.

If you felt like you were reading a medical manual today instead of a devotional, you aren’t alone! Leviticus 12–14 gives us “TMI” (too much information) on skin diseases, mold, and bodily discharges. But as we discussed today, these external rituals point to a profound internal reality.

Our Word of the Day is Clean.

To be clean in the biblical sense means to be morally uncontaminated, pure, or innocent. For the ancient Israelites, being “unclean” wasn’t always a sin—it was often a natural part of life, like childbirth or illness—but it did mean they couldn’t enter the sanctuary. God is so holy that nothing “unclean” can stand in His presence.

Jesus took this concept even deeper in Matthew 15. He told the Pharisees that it’s not what goes into a person that makes them unclean, but what comes out of the heart. Evil thoughts, malice, and greed are the “spiritual mold” that truly defiles us.

The SOAP Method Tricia’s pastor shared a great way to “cleanse” our lives through the Word:

• S - Scripture: Write it down.

• O - Observation: What do you notice?

• A - Application: How does it change you?

• P - Prayer: Ask God for help.

When we are clean, God can dwell among us. We don’t have to follow the ancient laws of leprosy today, but we are called to the same standard of holiness. We need to be a community that strives for purity, not just for our health, but for our relationship with the Creator.

Michelle noted that in ancient times, almost anything could plunge someone into a state of “uncleanness.” What is one “natural” thing in your daily life (stress, busyness, media) that often makes you feel spiritually “unclean” or distant from God? Father, we come before You acknowledging that we need a Savior to cleanse our souls. Thank You that through Jesus, we can be made pure. Help us to fix our thoughts on what is true, lovely, and admirable. Scrape away the “mildew” in our hearts and help us to live clean lives that bring glory to Your name. Amen.

TODAY’S READING: Leviticus 9–11.

WORD OF THE DAY: Among.

We’ve reached a “replay moment” in the story of Israel! After chapters of instructions, the fire of the Lord finally blazed forth, consuming the offering. The people didn’t just watch from the base of a mountain this time; they shouted for joy and fell face down because God was officially dwelling among them.

Our Word of the Day is Among.

To be among means to be in the midst of or surrounded by. The Tabernacle was structured into three zones—the Holy of Holies, the Inner Court, and the Outer Court—mirroring the zones of Mount Sinai. But the difference is accessibility. God moved from the distant peak to the center of the camp.

However, being in the presence of a Holy God requires a heart of reverence. We see the tragic story of Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, who offered “strange fire” and were consumed. It’s a stark reminder that God’s goodness is pure, but it is also powerful. We cannot treat the sacred as common.

Michelle shared about treating her home as an “Embassy for the Lord.” If an outsider walked into your home (or your workspace) today, would they find an environment that reflects the peace and holiness of God? What is one “holy space” you can cultivate in your life this week?

Lord, we are amazed that You, the God of the universe, desire to live among us. Thank You for Your presence that surrounds us and Your Spirit that dwells within us. TODAY’S READING: Leviticus 7–8.

WORD OF THE DAY: Exhibit.

If you’re still “trudging” through Leviticus like Michelle, don’t lose heart! Today, we found some incredible depth in the rituals of the priesthood. These former slaves were essentially receiving their “Constitution”—a framework for how to live as a free and holy nation.

One of the most striking scenes is the anointing of the priests. Moses applied blood to their right earlobes, right thumbs, and right big toes. This wasn’t random! It was a powerful exhibit of their purpose:

1. The Ear: To listen intently to God’s directions.

2. The Thumb: To engage in active service for His Kingdom.

3. The Toe: To walk faithfully in His paths.

Our Word of the Day is Exhibit.

To exhibit is to put something on public display. Just as the priests were set apart, we are called to be an exhibit of God’s grace in the world today. We may not be wearing priestly robes, but we exhibit His character when we hold our tongues during a frustrating moment, serve our families, or remain faithful in a job that feels “boring.”

The book of Hebrews tells us that while the Old Testament priests were limited by human weakness, we have a perfect High Priest in Jesus. He is the “perfect keeper” of the covenant for us. He has been set apart from sinners and given the highest place of honor. Because He offered Himself once for all, we can now “exhibit” His love and light in our daily lives—from the middle of the night with a colicky baby to the nursing home visit.

Romans 6:13 tells us to “use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.” Looking at the “Ear, Thumb, and Toe” symbolism, which of these three areas do you feel most called to dedicate to God today? Why?

Father God, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the ways You chose and set apart the priests, and for how that points to the calling You have on our lives today. WORD OF THE DAY: Standard.

Have you ever read a chapter of the Bible and realized five minutes later you didn’t retain a single word? You aren’t alone! Leviticus can be a challenge, but as we discussed today, even the most technical laws about bull fat and blood-sprinkling are “God-breathed” and useful for our lives.

One of the most eye-opening parts of today’s study was the focus on unintentional sin. We often think that if we didn’t “mean” to do something wrong, it shouldn’t count. But in the Tabernacle, even the “accidental” violations required an unblemished sacrifice. This shows us that God’s holiness isn’t just about our intentions; it’s about His Standard.

Our Word of the Day is Standard.

A standard is a rule or measure established by an authority. Michelle shared about those childhood report cards—how some students (like her dad) read encyclopedias for fun to meet the standard, while others feel like they’re just trying to get by. In our modern world, we often settle for “good enough,” but God calls us to a higher level of excellence.

Tricia also dug into a fascinating term: “Sacred Property.” In the original Hebrew context, defiling sacred property could refer to betrayal or taking what isn’t yours—essentially embezzlement of the heart. It reminds us that everything we have belongs to God, and how we treat His things (and His people) matters.

The beauty of this messy, bloody process in Leviticus is that it points directly to Jesus. He didn’t just meet the standard; He is the standard. He took our “unintentional” messes and our “intentional” rebellions and covered them once and for all. Now, we don’t strive to meet a standard to earn His love; we strive because we are empowered by His Spirit to be like Him.

Michelle’s grandmother used to tell her dad, “You could do better.” In your spiritual life, is there an area where you’ve been saying “that’s good enough”? How can you ask God today to help you move from “good enough” to His standard of excellence?

Heavenly Father, thank You for being our ultimate standard. We admit that we often fall into the trap of “unintentional” sin, and we thank You that Jesus’ sacrifice covers it all. Help us to not be lazy in our faith, but to desire the higher things You have for us. Give us the strength to live righteous lives that honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

TODAY’S READING: Numbers 8–9; Leviticus 1–3.

WORD OF THE DAY: Substitution.

We’ve officially hit the “rabbit trail” of the Pentateuch! For the next 13 days, the action of the Israelite journey pauses as God delivers the procedures for worship. We are looking at the “how-to” of the Tabernacle. It’s messy, it’s detailed, and it’s deeply symbolic.

One of the most beautiful things we uncovered today is the true meaning of the “peace offering.” Unlike the sin offering, which dealt with the barrier of guilt, the peace offering was about fellowship. It was a communion meal. God wasn’t just giving them a way to be “right” with Him; He was giving them a way to enjoy being with Him.

Our Word of the Day is Substitution.

Throughout today’s text, we see one thing standing in for another. The Levites were substituted for the firstborn sons. The unblemished animals were substituted for the sinful people. This theme of substitution is the scarlet thread that runs all the way from the garden of Eden to the cross of Calvary.

As Michelle pointed out, the beauty of walking through Leviticus is seeing the standard God requires—and then realizing that we could never meet it on our own. Jesus is our ultimate substitution. He was the only one truly “without blemish,” and He took our place so that we could have a permanent peace offering with the Father.

Tricia mentioned that she uses daily moments (like folding laundry or checking her heart rate) as triggers for prayer and surrender. What are three “mundane” moments in your day that you can turn into a “sacrifice of praise” or a moment of surrender to God?

TODAY’S READING: Numbers 7.

WORD OF THE DAY: Diligence.

We did it! We’ve moved through the Tabernacle’s construction, and now we are witnessing its grand opening. If you felt like you were reading the same paragraph twelve times today, you were! Each tribe brought the exact same offering to the Lord over twelve days. This wasn’t because they lacked creativity; it was a sign of total, equal commitment from every single part of the nation.

As we discussed on the podcast, this is “Dedication Day.” Think about the first service in a brand-new church building—the smell of the new carpet, the excitement in the air, and the realization that all the fundraising and hard work was worth it. For the Israelites, it probably smelled like a mix of “Dunkin’ Donuts and a Southern BBQ” with all that flour, oil, and roasting meat! But more importantly, it was the place where they finally heard God’s voice clearly.

Our Word of the Day is Diligence.

Diligence is careful and persistent work. It took diligence for the tribes to care for these offerings in the desert and bring them forward one by one. And friend, it takes diligence for you to open your Bible or hit “play” on this podcast every single day. Some days are exciting; some days feel like 89 verses of repetition. But your persistence is building a foundation that will last a lifetime.

Tricia reminded us that our diligence creates a legacy. When our kids and grandkids see us being faithful in the “mundane” parts of our faith, they learn that God is worth the effort. Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, and he heard a voice. That is our goal, too—to be so diligent in our pursuit that we truly hear from Him.

Lord, thank You for the privilege of being in Your Word today. Thank You for the gift of Numbers and the reminder that You notice every single tribe and every single offering. Give us a spirit of diligence. When we are tired or when the reading feels long, remind us that You are speaking to us from the “mercy seat.” We want to hear Your voice. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WORD OF THE DAY: Guide.

Imagine the scene: The dust of construction has finally settled. The golden furniture is in place, the curtains are hung, and the bread of presence is laid out. On the first day of the new year, the Tabernacle is officially dedicated. But the real “ribbon cutting” happens when the glory of the Lord descends—a cloud so thick and glorious that even Moses can’t enter.

As we discussed on the podcast, this moment is like a grand wedding day. All the preparation, the checklists, and the hard work culminate in a beautiful union. For the Israelites, it was the realization of God’s promise: I will dwell among them. They went from being slaves with no place to worship to being a nation hosted by the Creator of the Universe.

Our Word of the Day is Guide.

A guide is someone or something we rely on to show us the way. The Israelites had a literal “God Cloud.” When it moved, they moved. When it stayed, they stayed. It required total reliance. Today, we have something even more intimate—the Holy Spirit living inside us.

Tricia shared about her recent interview with a reporter who called her life “good fortune.” But we know better! It isn’t luck; it’s a Guide. Whether it’s starting a podcast, adopting children, or caring for elderly family members, God guides us through the stirrings of our hearts and the light of His Word.

Psalm 119:105 says God’s word is a lamp to our feet. Often, a lamp only shows us the very next step, not the whole map. What is the “next step” God is illuminating for you right now? Are you willing to move when the “cloud” moves, even if you don’t know the final destination?

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being our constant Guide. Thank You that You don’t leave us to wander alone. Just as Your glory filled the Tabernacle, we pray that Your Spirit would fill our lives today. Help us to be sensitive to Your leading—to stay when You say stay, and to move when You say move. TODAY’S READING: Exodus 37–39.

WORD OF THE DAY: Gold.

Does it feel like we’ve been here before? If you felt a sense of “holy deja vu” while reading today’s chapters, you aren’t alone. We are seeing the actual construction of the items God blueprinted for Moses on the mountain. But this isn’t just a construction report; it’s a record of obedience. The people who stumbled with the golden calf are now using their gold for its true purpose: honoring the Living God.

As we discussed on the podcast, every item Bezalel crafted—the Ark, the table of showbread, the altar—was made of acacia wood overlaid with gold. This is a stunning picture of Jesus. The wood represents His humanity (earthly, yet perfect and incorruptible), while the gold represents His deity. You cannot see the wood without the gold, and the gold reveals the shape of the wood. They are perfectly united.

Our Word of the Day is Gold.

Gold is unique. It’s malleable enough to be drawn into threads a single atom thick, yet it never decays. In the Tabernacle, it was everywhere—reflecting the light of the lampstand and the glory of God. It reminds us that our future home in the New Jerusalem features streets of gold (Revelation 21). When we read about gold in Exodus, we are catching a glimpse of our eternal dwelling place.

Tricia shared a beautiful story about her grandfather glimpsing heaven before he passed. That is what these chapters do for us—they give us a glimpse through the “blue cord” and the “hammered gold” into the heart of a God who desperately wants to dwell among His people.

Master Craftsman, we thank You for the beauty of Your design. Thank You that even in the repetitive parts of life, You are building something holy. WORD OF THE DAY: Crafted.

Have you ever been part of a project where people were so excited to give that the leaders actually had to tell them to stop? That is exactly what happened in Exodus 36. Moses gave the command, and the people responded with such radical generosity that the master craftsmen had to pause their work to ask Moses to restrain the people from bringing more.

As we discussed on today’s podcast, this wasn’t just about gold and linen; it was about the heart. God had gifted Bezalel and Oholiab with incredible skills, but they couldn’t build the Tabernacle alone. They needed the community. They needed the weavers, the metalworkers, and the donors. They were crafting a community while they were crafting a sanctuary.

Our Word of the Day is Crafted.

To craft is to exercise skill in making something. We often think of “crafting” as a hobby, but in the Bible, it is a spiritual calling. Whether you are an architect, a writer, a parent, or a radio producer like Michelle, your skills are a gift from the Master Craftsman. He has intentionally designed you for a purpose that fits into His kingdom plans.

The most amazing part? They did this in the desert. They didn’t wait for a permanent home or perfect conditions. They used what they had, where they were, to honor God.

In Exodus 35:25, it says all the women who were skilled in sewing began spinning blue, purple, and scarlet thread. What “thread” has God put in your hands today? How can you use your specific skills to contribute to God’s “Tabernacle” in your local community?

Master Craftsman, thank You for the way You have uniquely formed and fashioned each of us. We confess that we often wait for perfect circumstances before we step out in faith. Help us to be like the Israelites—eager, willing, and generous even in our own deserts. Take the “craft” of our lives and use it to build something that displays Your glory to the world. TODAY’S READING: Exodus 32–34.

WORD OF THE DAY: Must.

It’s hard to wrap our minds around it. The Israelites had seen the plagues, walked through the Red Sea, and even shared a meal with God on the mountain. Yet, forty days of silence was all it took for them to melt down their jewelry and worship a golden calf. It feels shocking until we realize how often we do the same thing—trading the glory of the eternal God for a temporary “fix.”

But look at the response of Moses. He stepped up as a mediator, pleading for the people even when God called them “your people” (the ultimate “parenting hand-off”!). Moses didn’t just want the people saved; he wanted to see God’s glory. As we discussed on the podcast, Moses asked for a personal knowledge of God that transcended the rules. God’s response was to hide him in the crevice of a rock and let His goodness pass by.

Our Word of the Day is Must.

God used this word 11 times in our reading today. He said things like, “You must worship no other gods.” These aren’t just commands; they are necessities for life. Just like a parent says, “You must hold my hand in the parking lot,” God’s “musts” are meant to keep us safe and connected to Him.

When Moses came down from the mountain the second time, his face was radiant. He didn’t even know it, but everyone else did. That is the Shekinah Glory—the visible manifestation of God’s presence. When we spend time with the Lord, we don’t have to tell people; they can see the difference His peace and joy make in us.

In Exodus 33:18, Moses asks, “Now show me your glory.” If you were to ask God to show you His glory today, what “goodness” are you hoping to see in your current situation? How can you trust His “hand” to cover you even when you can’t see His full face?

Lord, we thank You that You are a God who relents and shows mercy. Forgive us for the times we’ve built our own “golden calves” out of impatience or fear. Thank You for being slow to anger and abounding in love. We ask today: Show us Your glory! Let our lives reflect Your light so clearly that the world knows we have been with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
