  • 40. Bias: Unconscious - Conscious - Subconscious Bias

Episode 40 begins our deep dive into human bias and specifically conscious, subconscious and unconscious bias.

We all have this bias, and we all can benefit from understanding our own and other's biases in the effort to have a more positive individual influence.

We will challenge the difficult discussion and often time-volatile topic and how we can move this issue forward in its most positive way.

  • 39. Individualism - Reflection

In this episode, we review and reflect on the power of Individualism.  This is a cornerstone of The I in Team Series and why the Daily Influence is so important to us.

Our individualism is made up of our Attitude and how we think can set our attitude.

Our maturity is defined by our individualism and how we perceive and interact within our individual and collective selves.  Maturity can be unique to different areas of influence and there are different aspects to maturity, such as emotional intelligence.

Our willpower can define our individualism and it is something that needs to be managed, lest we run out.  Sometimes, motivation alone does not carry the day and our willpower will get us to those milestones that help us reach our ultimate areas of influence.

To aid in reaching our ultimate influence, we should be using Goals and we advocate for SMART goals that can support SMART tactics and help us to best manage the path to success.

SMART goals and tactics can help us to avoid failure but also help us to define failure better to ensure failure is a positive education opportunity, whereby we can create more opportunities to take advantage of from the education of failure.

And the ultimate goal is to be a prosperous (I)individual.  Prosperity is individual to each of us and our unique areas of influence and cannot be set by some general term or definition. Anything that leads to us feeling positive leads us to feeling prosperous.

  • 38. Individualism - Prosperity

In our opinion, Prosperity is the positive cumulation of all we do.  What this means is that prosperity is not defined by the same things for all people; it is itself very individual.

When we finally define our own prosperity, we finally set ourselves free and become more individual in a way that makes us our best self.

Prosperity can be defined for companies in much the same way and when the collective individuals agree to the definition, we begin to see the real power of Individualism.

  • 37. Individualism - Failure

Failure is one of life's most opportune times to learn something that can offer the most advantage.

As Henry Ford stated, "Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently."

When we change our perception of failure, we create opportunities and advantages from failure.

  • 36. Individualism - Goals

In this episode, we discuss Goals and the importance they play in being our best self (I)individual.

We are strong advocates of SMART:

    • Specific
    • Measurable
    • Attainable
    • Realistic
    • Timely

SMART goal setting is the prelude to SMART tactics and offers us the best opportunity to prepare to reach whichever place we are striving to reach in our areas of influence.  SMART also offers us the best opportunity to learn from any failures along the way, by using SMART to identify and define what went wrong.

  • 35. Individualism - Willpower

Willpower is our inner voice that keeps up the motivation that can keep you going forward toward a milestone or goal, when quitting seems like the only option.

Our attitude and maturity can play a big part of our willpower.  Our foundation can also influence our willpower and understanding these aspects is key to managing our willpower and being able to build it back up.

Key takeaways are understanding your willpower limits and how you recharge them.

How you individually deplete your willpower is important to understand.

Slowing down can help you gain a better understanding of your willpower and how to best work with it.

  • 34. Individualism - Maturity

Maturity has little to do with age, and we will discuss this in Episode 34.

Your maturity is determined by how you act in the world, within your areas of influence.  How you respond to the differing issues in your life can influence the perception of your maturity for self and others.

Maturity is not synonymous with positive influence. It is not good or bad, and it is individual to one's particular areas of influence.

Being self-aware of areas in your life where you may be immature can help you create more positive influence and change many aspects of your life that we have discussed.

  • 33. Individualism - Attitude

One of our goals at The "I" in Team Series and with our Daily Influence podcast is to further the importance of Individualism.

The next few episodes will be diving into this effort and why we feel the common understanding of individualism is incorrect.

We have previously identified that singular individual to us or when we are writing about one person alone, we use the lowercase 'i' and when we are writing about many acting as one as with a team or company, we use the uppercase 'I".

This distinction is important, because I cannot be my best for others  until I am first best for myself; not in a selfish mindset.

Our Attitude can set the stage for this and help us to understand ourselves and others as well as help others understand us.

    Key takeaways:

We can identify attitude through body language, facial expressions, tone or even for some intuition.

If you want to change your attitude, you may have to look at how you perceive the world; perception can become reality.

Being mindful of yourself can help to regulate your attitude. As Buddha once said, "The mind is everything. What you think, you become."

  • 32. Reflection on Foundation

Today's episode is a reflection of our Foundation discussions.

We began with Self-Awareness and how understanding self is an important aspect of our Foundation.

We talked about our habits - good and bad - and how understanding our habits can help us create and maintain a positive environment for ourself and our areas of influence

We moved to a discussion about Character and how our character is important to our area of influence. We can spend a lifetime building character and it only takes a single act of influence that can tarnish or destroy our character.

One aspect of our character was our last topic, Perception is Reality. We discussed how people perceive us can be their reality about us and how just being in a certain crowd, working for a person or company, can define who we are to people and how this can be misleading and incorrect, which means we should be mindful of our perceptions.

And then, we finished with Empathy and how empathy can be a key foundational trait for us as humans and help us understand and build our foundation.

  • 31. Foundation - Empathy

Empathy is the ability to recognize, categorize, and understand the emotions another person is feeling and then respond in a way that makes the experience comforting for everyone in that particular area of influence.

Key takeaways is understanding empathy in your area of influence.  Learning how to utilize empathy as an individual and a leader.

Learning that empathy is not acceptance but is understanding.

Empathy can be a foundation for positive influence.
