In the US midterms, Republicans retain control of the Senate, but the Democrats take the House.

In a mixed day for the major parties, Democrats won control of the House in the US Congressional midterm elections on Tuesday.

But Republicans retained control of the Senate.

The elections were widely seen as a referendum on the style of President Donald Trump.

So, it seems the jury is still out.

Turkey welcomes US bounties on PKK terrorists

The Turkish foreign ministry has welcomed a decision by the US state department to put multi-million-dollar bounties on the heads of three senior PKK terrorists.

The three are Murat Karayilan, Cemil Bayik and Duran Kalkan.

Anybody who provides information leading to their identification or location could receive from 3 to 5 million dollars.

Erdogan says US-SDF patrols are "unacceptable"

Staying with the PKK, and Turkey's President Erdogan says joint US-SDF patrols in Syria are "unacceptable."

The SDF is dominated by the YPG which is the Syrian arm of the PKK terrorist group.

Erdogan says he expects Trump to stop the patrols which are reported to be taking place just south of the Turkish border.

Madagascans vote for a president

Millions of voters in Madagascar queued in long lines early today to cast their ballots in a presidential election as the Indian Ocean island struggles to create jobs, fight poverty and end corruption.

None of the front runners is expected to win the first round outright in the field of 36 contenders.

If the poll does go to a second round as expected, the top two candidates will face off on December 19.

Hindus celebrate Diwali

And finally,

Hindus around the world are celebrating Diwali, or the Festival of Lights.

The five-day celebration does not have fixed dates each year. But the main day is always the third day.

This year in northern India that day is today. In southern India it was yesterday.

President Donald Trump won't face the electorate for another two years.

But two years into his presidency, the Congressional midterms are being seen as a referendum on his time in office.

At stake in Tuesday's vote is the entire House and just over a third of the Senate. Thirty-six states will also choose governors.

Gunmen kidnap at least 82 people in Cameroon

Gunmen have kidnapped over 80 people in Cameroon.

Officials say 79 of the victims are children who've been taken from a boarding school in the northwestern city of Bamenda.

The school's principal, a teacher, and a driver were also abducted by the gunmen in a dawn raid.

The government blames separatists in the region.

Khashoggi cover-up

Turkey has identified the Saudi Arabian toxicologist and a chemicals expert accused of coming to Istanbul to cover up the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.

The two men came in as part of a Saudi team meant to work with Turkey on the investigation of the journalist's murder.

Turkish officials say the two cleaned the consulate and the Consul General's residence before Turkish police were given access.

Caravan limps into Mexico City

Thousands of Central Americans dreaming of getting to the United States streamed into Mexico's capital and bedded down in a sports stadium overnight.

The caravan has been a focus of US election bombast. But it's still hundreds of kilometres from the US border.

Most of its members are ordinary people attempting to flee violence and poverty at home.

Spice Girls reunite without 'Posh'

And finally,

Fans are finally getting what they really, REALLY want, a Spice Girls reunion. But it won't be as 'Posh' as some were hoping.

Victoria Beckham won't be joining the others, although a cameo is not ruled out.

The US has reinstated its toughest ever sanctions on Iran.

Iran's oil and financial sectors are being targeted as well as companies doing business with Iran.

The measures are a direct result of US President Donald Trump's decision to abandon the multi-nation nuclear deal with Tehran in May.

Jamal Khashoggi's sons made an appeal for the return of their father's body for burial in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to CNN, Salah and Abdullah say they have faith that Saudi king Salman will bring their father’s murderers to justice.

Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2nd.

Severe storms leave kill over 30 in Italy

Over 30 people were killed by flooding and violent storms in six regions across northern Italy.

Millions of trees have been uprooted and villages and roads have been cut off.

Authorities are on high alert as powerful winds and torrential rains continue.

He’s even managed to escape from jail, twice.

The notorious drug kingpin could face life in prison if convicted.

One month after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi there are still more questions than answers, and Google workers protest the company's payouts over sexual abuse allegations.

One month on, where is Jamal Khashoggi's body?

It's been a month today since Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in Istanbul by a hit squad sent from Riyadh.

His body has not yet been found.

Turkey wants Saudi authorities to hand over the culprits, including whoever ordered the killing.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post is reporting that Israel and Egypt are calling on the US to continue supporting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Several members of the hit squad had links to the crown prince.

Release of Asia Bibi apparently delayed

The release of a woman in Pakistan after the Supreme Court overturned her death sentence for blaspheming Islam has been delayed. That's according to the Associated Press.

Asia Bibi had been on death row since 2010.

She's now being held in an undisclosed detention facility.

Hardliners are blocking roads and calling for the death of the judges who overturned her conviction.

Turkish, US troops begin joint patrols in Manbij

Turkish and US troops have begun joint patrols in and near the northern Syrian city of Manbij.

The NATO allies are backing different sides in Syria's war.

But they're cooperating over Manbij in a bid to rid the region of terror groups.

Bolsonaro says will move Brazil's embassy in Israel to Jerusalem

Brazil's president-elect Jair Bolsonaro says he's planning to move Brazil's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the move.

If Brazil follows through, it will join the US and Guatemala as the only countries with their embassies in the city.

Thousands of Google employees around the world staged a brief walkout Thursday to protest the company's treatment of some executives accused of sexual misconduct.

Google says it's fired 48 employees in the past two years over allegations of sexual abuse.

But it's also paid out some of those leaving, including a $90 million package for one senior staffer.
