His Descent and Ascent 4

When Jesus declared, "It is finished," on the cross, He gave up the ghost and descended to the realm of the dead. He was there for three days and three nights, just as He had foretold, likening it to Jonah's time in the belly of the whale.

Col 2:13-15 TPT This “realm of death” describes our former state, for we were held in sin’s grasp. But now, we’ve been resurrected out of that “realm of death” never to return, for we are forever alive and forgiven of all our sins! 14 He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all—our sins, our stained soul—he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto his cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation. 15 Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us. And by the power of the cross, Jesus led them around as prisoners in a procession of triumph. He was not their prisoner; they were his!

In those three days, Jesus came into a pace when Satan and his cohorts exerted control and completely disarmed them. So, in reality Satan has no power over anyone in Christ, the only power he has now is the power of deception. By conquering the Satan in his own domain, Jesus Lordship was established in the heavens, on earth and under the earth.

The Devil has succeeded in deceiving many people including believers that he still has great power, but according to the New Testament based on the finished work of Christ that is not true. All he has is deception, Jesus has stripped him of all authority – never forget that.

His Descent And Ascent 2

Jesus didn’t just come to earth to save us from sin, He died, descended to the lowest parts of it, to the realm of the dead, and then ascended to the highest place in heaven. And all this, He did this for your sake. When He died, he descended to Hades which is sometime referred to as hell, sheol or the place of the dead.

Psalm 16:10 (NKJV), “For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.”

Psalm 16:10 (TPT) puts it this way: “For you will not abandon me to the realm of death, nor will you allow your Faithful One to experience corruption.”

According to Scriptures, Sheol, has two parts. In the story of Lazarus and the rich man, we see this clearly: Lazarus was carried to Abraham’s bosom (paradise), while the rich man was in torment (hell). Luk.16:22-23

After His death on the cross, Jesus descended into Sheol to confront the devil and liberate those held captive. This is why Psalm 16:10 says, that “You will not leave my soul in hell, not allow you holy one sees corruption…”. Jesus went to the place of the dead, triumphed over the enemy and released the righteous souls awaiting redemption.

This victory has significant meaning for us. It confirms that death and the powers of hell has no dominion over those in Christ. Jesus has already conquered Sheol, stripped the devil of his power, and broken the chains of the grave. Because of this, we now have access to life, freedom, and victory. Always remember this - IN CHRIST, DEATH AND HELL HAS NO POWER OVER YOU!

I pray for you today: In every area the enemy seeks to exert the power of Sheol over your life—be it fear, bondage, or oppression—that power be broken in Jesus' Name. Christ has already finished the work for you. Stand in that victory and live free.

Monday 14th April

His Descent And Ascent 1

We've been reflecting on Christ’s resurrection experience; we have discussed His suffering and deaths and what it means to us as believers and the benefits we derive from these things. This week we want to focus on His descent and ascent. What happened when He descended to the place of the dead, and He was there for 3 days and 3 nights before His ascended.

Ephesians 4:9-10 (TPT) says, “He ‘ascended’ means that he returned to heaven after he had first descended from the heights of heaven, even to the lower regions, namely, the earth. The same one who descended is also the one who ascended above the heights of heaven, in order to begin the restoration and fulfillment of all things.”

After His death, He descended into the place of the dead, some versions of the Bible refer to the place of the dead as Hades or hell. Before His sacrifice, the dead went to the place of the dead. This place was divided into two parts – paradise or Abrham’s Bosom this was for the faithful. The other part was the place of torment which was for those unfaithful to God.

For three days and nights, He contended with the devil and all the forces of hell and triumphed over them. His victory was complete and eternal. From that place, He ascended to the highest heavens, restoring all things and declaring His Lordship over everything. Now, He reigns over the heavens, the earth and the depths beneath the earth.

Christ’s journey from heaven to earth, to death, to Hades, and back to heaven—was a mission of restoration and victory. And He did it for us so that we could be one with Him and walk in the dominion He had always destined for us on the earth. As we continue in this study, I pray that you will gain a clear greater clarity of this truth in Jesus’ Name.

Christ's Suffering and Deaths 4

Everything Jesus endured—His suffering, shame, and abuse—was for you. These truths aren't just for head knowledge but to help you understand the price paid for your redemption. This understanding empowers you to live purposefully and minister effectively, advancing God's Kingdom through your life.

Consider it these scriptures

Isaiah 53:5 (NLT): “He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins…by his wounds we are healed.”

Matthew 8:17 (NLT): “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”

1 Peter 2:24 (NLT): “He personally carried our sins…by his wounds you are healed.”

Luke 23:25 (NLT): “They released Barabbas...and turned Jesus over to them to do as they wished.”

Though Pilate found Jesus innocent, the people chose Barabbas—a murderer—over the Author of Life. They rejected Jesus and demanded His crucifixion. Yet, in that rejection, God's redemptive plan was fulfilled.

Jesus bore your sickness, shame, pain, and sin so you wouldn't have to carry them. Every stripe He took was for your healing. So when sickness shows up, remind yourself—and the enemy—that Jesus already paid the price. Stand firm in that truth.

Without this revelation, life and the enemy can overwhelm you.Jesus said, “The prince of this world has nothing in me.” It's possible to live in this world and the devil's attacks won't be able to overwhelm you. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, you are free from sickness, regret, shame, and rejection. You have been accepted into God’s family.

This is your reality in Christ. Walk in it.

Christ's Suffering and Deaths 3

Jesus Christ suffered, died, descended into hell, and rose again. Understanding this is vital to our Christian walk. Some think these things are just stories forgetting that Jesus is actually a real Person who once lived on earth and truly endured human pain. The Bible reminds us that we have a High Priest who understands our weaknesses—because He lived through our human struggles yet, He never sinned or gave up. This is why we can look to Him in our struggles. His Spirit strengthens us through life’s challenges.

In Matthew 26:38, Jesus said, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

He was in deep agony as He felt the pressures of the crucifixion before Him. He even asked His disciples to stand by Him in prayer. He truly understands what it feels like to be overwhelmed.

Matthew 27:28-31 (NLT) recounts how He was mocked, beaten, and humiliated:

“They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him… made a crown of thorns… spat on Him… struck Him… and led Him away to be crucified.”

Jesus endured all this for you, always remember that!Every mockery, every lash, the spitting—He bore it all for us. God, in human form, suffered so we wouldn’t have to. He carried our sin, shame, pain, and disgrace, sparing us the full weight of judgment. His suffering became our path to glory.

So when the devil tries to put on you what Jesus already paid for—pain, shame, fear—you can boldly resist.

Declare that Jesus has paid the price, and no matter what you're going through, know that the price for your victory has already been paid. Let this truth rest in your spirit today.
