My dad made me feel like a ping pong ball, hitting me with a paddle until I rolled under the furnace.   

Clark and Terry are characters in this story and have nothing to do with Clark Terry the swing and bebop jazz trumpeter.  

I brought home a petri dish filled with mercury, poured it out on the kitchen table, and slammed it with a hammer.
