Many female tango dancers have faced gender bias and discrimination in the tango communities over the past few years. In this episode, Freseda Mae and I discuss how instances of unsolicited feedback and uncomfortable dance experiences led Mae to decide to start leading.
But once she did start leading she faces other challenges of being a dual role dancer. We also talk about the impact of gender bias on women in tango, the power dynamics in the community, and the importance of supporting and empowering female leaders.
