Dark Hearts with Stacy Lee

Glen Taylor Helzer believed he was a prophet of God. Raised a devout Mormon, Taylor gained a deep knowledge of the Book of Mormon. He served a Mormon mission and went to work at Morgan Stanley as a stockbroker. He was then introduced to the program known as Impact, which many call a cult. This new belief system changes Taylor Helzer. He begins living a wild lifestyle and soon, his brother Justin Helzer becomes his devoted follower. With the help of a new recruit, Dawn Godman, Taylor comes up with a sinister plan. He has access to wealthy people's bank accounts through his work as a stockbroker and he targets Ivan and Annette Steinman, an elderly couple, planning to steal their wealth for himself. Taylor's girlfriend, Selina Bishop wants nothing to do with the plan which means she too must die. By the time Taylor and Justin Helzer are finished, five people will have lost their lives to the self proclaimed prophet and his cult, The Children of Thunder

You probably haven't heard the name Johnny Meadows before. He is a convicted serial killer on a case most people know nothing about. Linda Cougat, Eula Kay Miller, Ruth Maynard, Gloria Sue Green, Nix as she was called, and others turned up bound, raped and murdered in the late 1960s and early 1970s near Odessa, Texas. The police were stumped and then, they got a phone call from Aztec, New Mexico. Johnny Edwards, a man who had been interviewed in the case was sitting in jail there and telling tales of murder. Johnny Edwards is arrested and put on trial but years later, many are convinced, he is not the killer. You'll have to decide for yourself

Scott Farris found his father Gary dead and burned on the family farm's burn pile. At first, he thought he'd had a heart attack and fallen into the fire but then the coroner finds bullets inside Gary's body. Melody Farris hated her husband. They lived in the same house but barely spoke and Melody had a boyfriend. She was spending Gary's money to see him. The tension in the house was palpable and when Gary ended up dead, everyone thought Melody would be arrested, but she wasn't. The trial that results was shocking but not nearly as shocking at what was said during sentencing

Gary DeVore worked with the A-List of Hollywood. He was successful beyond his wildest dreams but he was also disillusioned with his work and had become more interested in writing about politics. When he came across a story about Manuel Noriega blackmailing US Officials with secretly videotaped sex acts with children, he went down the rabbit hole. Then he ended up dead. Or did he? His Ford Explorer was found crashed in an aqueduct near Palmdale, California and there was a body inside; a body that was missing its hands. Gary DeVore had a disfigured finger that made his hands very distinctive. Had someone put a body in Gary's car and removed its hands because that body didn't belong to Gary? And if so, what happened to Gary DeVore? A British researcher and professor named Matthew Alford becomes obsessed with this story and decides to make a documentary about it. What he uncovers is more shocking than anyone could imagine but after years of research, and additional deaths tied to this story, he abandons the project completely and refuses to speak about it. Is this the greatest spy story never told

Many years ago, I was very fascinated with the TV show Forensic Files and all of the new science that was being shown to the public for the first time. As I watched the story of this murder, I learned about how blood spatter analysis helps solve crimes and helps catch killers. When Karen Pannell is found murdered, with the name Roc written above her on the wall in her own blood, the police think they have their killer: Karen's ex-boyfriend Roc Herpich but forensic scientists make a discover that will change the course of the case and it all has to do with dry time on blood spatter. This was breaking science back in 2003 and remains fascinating even today.
