Following the recent and chaotic state GOP convention, some are wondering if there is a better way of doing things. The Senate seat Mitt Romney is vacating has four candidates, and the Third District congressional seat John Curtis is vacating has five. The race for state attorney general has three GOP candidates. With a surge of crowded races, Jay Stevensen, Opinion Editor of the Deseret News, joins D2 to talk through his recent opinion piece exploring the idea of installing a runoff system.  

The Internal Revenue Service is increasing its number of taxpayer audits, thanks to an $80 billion infusion from the Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law in Aug. 2022. The IRS states that it's goal is to increase the number of audits by 50% from 2019 numbers, but not everyone will feel a closer eye on them. The audits will focus on business owners and wealthy individuals who have previously distorted information to avoid high taxes. D2 shares their audit experiences, and takes calls from listeners.

Utah has been named America's "best state" by U.S. News & World Report's annual ranking. Economic stability and high education levels pushed the state to the front of the pack. Utah also had high marks in health, infrastructure, low debt at graduation, and unemployment. However, Utah ranked worst in gender pay gap. Dave and Debbie share if they feel like they are in the best state in their everyday lives.  

More information is emerging about the suspect in custody after allegedly hitting and killing Santaquin police Sgt. Bill Hooser. The alleged killer has previously been involved in a lawsuit over alleged mistreatment at the Shasta County Jail, where authorities placed Michael Aaron Jayne under a disciplinary diet of two food loafs a day. D2 discuss the suspects past history in correctional facilities and past crimes. 

There is less than a decade of time left for Congress to repair Social Security before funds are depleted, according to a new report from Social Security trustees. If ignored, the loss could result in a cut in payments of up to 21% for millions of retirees. Dave and Debbie discuss what the possibility of losing around $400/month could mean for retired Americans, and take calls from listeners about what they might do to prepare.  

A Santaquin officer was struck and killed after allegedly being targeted while attempting to conduct a traffic stop. Dave and Debbie discuss the timeline of events, and what led up to the incident. After striking a UHP and Santaquin officer in a semitrailer, the driver led police on a 160+ mile chase, leading several residential areas to be placed under shelter in place orders. After crashing a stolen vehicle, suspect Michael Aaron Jayne was placed into custody. KSL Newsradio has uncovered Jayne's lengthy criminal history, and D2 discuss how this tragedy unfolded with several guests leading up to the procession for the fallen Santaquin officer.
