Here Dave talks about how Róisín Burke a journalist with Cork’s Evening Echo encouraged RedFM to enter a media team in the CTC King of The Hill mini tri at the Dock Beach Kinsale in 2019 and of how much fun it was. Aside from just the sporting aspect of the Triathlon there's also a huge social aspect to it too. January 20, 2021David Whitla - Double bass instructor at CIT Cork School of MusicJust after getting married Canadian David Whitla moved to Ireland to join the RTÉ National Concert Symphony Orchestra. 3 years later a job opportunity for a double bass tutor in Cork arrived and 20 years later David hasn't looked back. Coming up in the next few months Cork Orchestral Society will be streaming online gigs. The first gig is this Saturday with '13 strings' with David being a member. The instruments which are part of 13 strings include: Double Bass, Violins, Violas and Cellos. Other gigs streamed also include: Solo Piano recitals, Wind quintet,a Piano Trio and a Trio of sopranos. January 19, 2021Tom Creedon on the roots of his new businessAfter having spent 13 years working as a stock broker in London, Tokyo and Hong Kong and after spending two years looking for a premises, Macroom man Tom Creedon made the brave move to open a deli in Cork city centre. Under the current circumstances the company is operating take away coffees and treats through a side hatch that opens onto French Church Street. The deli, called Masseytown in tribute to his late father's birthplace, Tom started off in the food industry working with Victor Murphy of O'Mahony’s in Watergrasshill and from there did a twelve week cookery course in Ballymaloe. January 18, 2021Wes Dunne of Heavy Man FilmsAll year Creative Ireland and TG4 asked production companies to pitch; “to create visual poems", so they set about striving to tell visual stories with flow and expression, colour, movement, speed, angles, contrast and depth. Members of the production crew include; director, Tomek, from Poland who was getting married during production but went online to help out because he knew how special the project was,Burschi Wojnar, a multi award winning legend of a DOP (director of photography) DJ, Daithi. As a composer he is not afraid to push boundaries and that is exactly what was being sought. Wes describes the challenges faced such as having a van break down in the middle of the night, one contributor contracted covid so they had to find a replacement and ended up having to drive 5 hours that night to get to a new location, there were a few grumpy faces that evening. The end result.. a number of inserts with a balance between craft, art, diversity and location. January 15, 2021Eddie Butt (Emperor of Ice Cream) talks about new music project: Arctic Lights.Liam O'Callaghan and Eddie are releasing this project which came about on the back of Emperor of Ice Cream's latest album last year. Having played with Liam in a band called 'Bulkhead,' which had some interest from record companies but disbanded because they got disillusioned by the music business, Eddie & Liam reunited 6 months ago after Liam reached out to Eddie with a song he had written and it took off from there, resulting in a 4 track EP titled Tabula Rasa which is out now. Their sound can be described as Melodic Indie pop, with catchy bass lines, distorted guitars with a blend of classic instruments. The the lead single is titled 'King of America '. It will be made available on all streaming platforms in the next couple of weeks. An online initiative from Cork International Choral Festival aimed at bringing people together from different locations around the country. Each company will be assigned a Choral conductor to teach each choir a song, as well as doing warm ups and having discussions about healthy singing which will help your body and mind. Every company will record a video with aim of hopefully entering each video into a competition as part of the Choral festival at the end of April.
