  • Softy and Dick H1 - Trade deadline has passed / 19 years of frustration not over / Chuck Powell's analysis / Worst situation in sports
The trade deadline has come and gone as Jerry Dipoto trades away Roenis Elias, Hunter Strickland, and Mike Leake. What did we get back? A bunch of unproven minor leaguers who might not even be good enough to make the Big League team ever. There's plenty of money freed up for future contracts though. Will any of it actually get used? Softy, after spending most of the season letting the team's struggles roll off his back, has finally had enough. Chuck Powell, KJR's morning show co-host and resident baseball expert is a little more optimistic about the changes and what's to come for the team. He goes in depth on the trades, and the team's farm system. A rebuilding baseball team is one of the worst positions to find yourself in as a fan. In pro football, you know that you can draft well, and sign some guys in the offseason and turn things around quickly. In college, you can recruit well. Basketball teams' fortunes can change with one great draft pick, or one free agent signing. In baseball, it's a long slog, and without a true cap, it's harder to attract those free agents away from a team like the Yankees. It's a struggle we as M's fans know all too well. Hopefully this is the rebuild that turns our fortunes around. ...Hopefully...

  • Softy and Dick H2 - A model for Metcalf in New Orleans / Petros Papadakis: Two things wrong with the Pac-12 / Textimonials: Lost season
Michael Thomas just signed a new deal in New Orleans, and when looking at his performance, he might be the model for what we hope D.K. Metcalf looks like on this Seahawks offense. Petros Papadakis discusses the two definitive things that are wrong with the Pac-12, plus thoughts on 9am start times, and more sports news from LA. Textimonials react to the Mariners' lost season at 49451.

  • Softy and Dick H3 - Collin Wilson of The Action Network's take on the Dawgs & Eason / More rumblings of NBA expansion / Metcalf expectations
Collin Wilson of The Action Network says put your money on Eastern in Game 1. He's not buying into the Dawgs, and isn't a believer in Jacob Eason. Softy, who is already fired about over the Mariners today is having none of it, and hilarity ensues. More talk of potential NBA expansion into Seattle on Bill Simmons' podcast. Seattle is on the top of the list, as one would expect. What are we realistically expecting from DK Metcalf in his rookie season with the Seahawks?

  • Softy and Dick H1 - L.J. Collier carted off the field with a high ankle sprain / Could this be a top 5 offense? / Bernie Williams
Some big news out of the VMAC today, and not news we would hope for as L.J. Collier was carted off the field with a high ankle sprain. He's likely to miss at least the rest of the pre-season. We've already had some concerns about the D-line, and specifically the edge rush. Is it time to start panicking about the look of the defense? On the flip side, the defense looks outstanding. Could this be a top 5 offense in the NFL this season? How confident are you? It's our STD for today. Bernie Williams is in town today to raise awareness for IPF. He joins us to discuss being on the wrong side of The Double, Mo Rivera's induction into the Hall of Fame, and more.

  • Softy and Dick H2 - Time to change the name / Jon Wilner on the Pac-12: 9:00 start times and more / Textimonials
Steve Balmer is open to the idea of changing the name of the Clippers as a way to re-brand the team. Outside of political reasons (like the Bullets), has a team ever changed its name while staying in the same city? Softy has been arguing for this for the Mariners for years. The team has brought us nothing but misery. Maybe a new identity would change things. The debate over the potential for 9am start times continues. Jon Wilner talks about the idea, plus, is the OKG philosophy being used against Chris Petesen on the recruiting trail? Textimonials react to the first two hours of the show at 49451.

  • Softy and Dick H3 - Brian Schmetzer on all things Sounders / Fun with Audio: Helicopter dad / Earl still not sorry / Nate or Great
The Sounders get a win this past weekend. They'll get a couple of guys back as they take on Sporting KC. With everything happening on the pitch, it's coach Brian Schmetzer. J. P. Crawford makes an incredible diving play, Russell Wilson is mahomesing, Earl Thomas still not sorry, and LeBron James, helicopter dad? All of that and more on Fun with Audio. Dick is much harder on Earl Thomas for the desert digit than Softy is. What would it take for Dave to turn on a Seattle legend? In honor of the Democratic debate tonight, we play a round of Nate or Great, rapid fire edition.

  • Softy and Dick H1 - Seahawks Topic of the Day: Bobby got paid, why not Earl? / The Athletic's Christian Caple talks Dawgs
Bobby Wagner got his big contract from the Seahawks on Friday. Today's Seahawks Topic of the Day, why couldn't Earl Thomas get the same treatment? The segment is complete with a re-enactment of a Twitter exchange between Dick and Slickhawk by Softy and Nate. Husky practices begin Friday. We talk with The Athletic's Christian Caple about the latest on the Dawgs and the Pac-12 including the potential for 9am starts, Chris Petersen's real thoughts on the transfer portal, and more.

  • Softy and Dick H2 - Pac-12 games at 9am: Could it work? / Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer / Textimonials
Jon Wilner throws out an idea, and just like that it becomes a possibility. Could we really see morning games in the Pac-12? It would be an interesting change of pace. It would, at the very least, change the culture of tailgating if not completely crush it. There's basically no way it would increase attendance. The whole point, supposedly, is to get East Coast viewers to check out some West Coast games, and this isn't going to do that. At the end of the day, if you want people to watch, put together some compelling matchups. No one wants to watch two bad teams play, no matter when you play the game... unless of course they got coin on the game, and that'll come soon enough. Softy caught up with Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for his first appearance on the show. Softy asks him about the one thing Russell Wilson needs to improve on. Texts react to the first two hours of the show at 49451.

  • Softy and Dick H3 - Paper tickets are history / Hugh Millen on Hawks & Dawgs / Tre Flowers evaluates first season / Nobody talking about 26
The Seahawks have completely eliminated paper tickets and Softy isn't happy about it. It's clearly an attempt to make it more difficult to re-sell tickets on the secondary market ...outside of their own platform of course. As long as the Hawks and the NFL can make a buck off of the resales, they don't mind. Hugh Millen weighs in on the latest news and notes from the Hawks and Huskies. Dick Fain talks with cornerback Tre Flowers about his first season in the NFL, and the step forward he hopes to take this season. Nobody is talking about Salvon Ahmed, and it's too bad because he may be one of the brightest stars on this Husky team. Softy and Dick read the same headline back-to-back. Vacation mode has been turned on already.

  • Softy and Dick H1 - Carson and Penny: Divvying up the carries / Schotty on the run game / Biggest sports star in Seattle / WR David Moore
Seahawks Topic of the Day (because everyone needs an STD): How should the Hawks divvy up the carries between Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny? The team seemed to find a good thing with Carson last season, but Penny is about ready to pop. Seattle could be only one of a very small number of teams with two running backs with more than 200 carries. Speaking of the run game, Brian Schottenheimer talked a little about it earlier this afternoon. We've got the highlights. Is Russell Wilson the biggest sports star this city has ever seen? Maybe not bigger than Griffey, but it's close. Softy caught up with third-year wide receiver David Moore at training camp this afternoon talking about improvements since he was drafted, and the cohesion among receivers.
