From hiding in fear to leading like a dictator, Gideon’s rise and fall shows us what happens when leaders cling to control and avoid surrender. The real lesson? God doesn’t need your army. He wants your obedience.

• Gideon is introduced as a “mighty warrior”—while hiding in a winepress, filled with fear

• God tells him to tear down his father’s altar to Baal, but he obeys at night and recruits backup, revealing his insecurity

• Despite a supernatural sign, Gideon demands two more “fleece tests” to confirm God’s voice

• Instead of obeying God’s original command, Gideon builds an army—so God whittles it down from 32,000 to 300
