David’s kingdom is expanding—and so is the danger beneath the surface. In today’s reading (2 Samuel 8–10), we see David at the height of his power, celebrated for his victories and praised for his kindness. But success isn’t neutral. The seeds of his future downfall are already taking root. As David begins to act more like a secular king—subjugating enemies for wealth, forming political alliances, and growing comfortable in his power—the stage is set for the moral failure that will define the next chapter.
