Romans 5-8 is one of the richest, most powerful sections in all of Scripture, unpacking grace, justification, the battle between flesh and Spirit, and our ultimate victory in Christ. • Repetition reveals themes – The most-used words in Romans: Law (78x), righteousness (66x), faith (62x), justification (15x). The message? We aren’t saved by the law but through faith, which makes us righteous before God.

• Total depravity? – Unlike later interpretations, Paul’s Jewish view sees sin (the flesh) as a force within us, but distinct from our true identity in Christ.

• Paul’s inner struggle: The famous “I do what I don’t want to do” passage reveals that even knowing the law doesn’t help—only the Spirit empowers obedience.

• Romans 8 is LOADED – No condemnation (v.1), all things work for good (v.28), nothing separates us from God’s love (v.38-39)—this chapter is stacked with powerful promises.

• Grace isn’t a free pass – True grace transforms, not excuses.

• The Holy Spirit is essential – Without Him, we’re stuck in cycles of sin; with Him, we live in freedom.

• We are more than conquerors – Christ’s victory over sin is our victory too.

• Faith unlocks everything – Just like Abraham was justified by faith, we are made righteous by trusting in Jesus.
