De Verloren Tijd episodes

  • Time Lost: Will Alexander

In this episode of Time Lost, Ollie Paterson speaks with prolific writer, philosopher and poet Will Alexander to discuss his metaphysical essay piece entitled “Modern mental terrain: Procuring script from nauseous diamonds”.

The conversation, in typical Alexanderian fashion, quickly morphs into esoteric shapes, almost existing outside of the linearity of time and space. Jumping into surreal and percussive directions, discussion spans from the idea of cosmic pre-creation, to language as an alchemical technology, to the spiritual nullification of contemporary selfhood.

Alexander also speaks of writing as a meditative praxis through which to communicate to forces larger than the individual, a way to open up and configure one’s own philosophy. As well as the current psychological climate being one not of despair, but a direct pathway to entering a new kingdom of the mind.

  • Time Lost: Lisa Robertson

For this episode of Time Lost, Romy Day Winkel spoke with writer and poet Lisa Robertson about her unpublished work titled “On Reading Nietzsche, 6 pm”. In this work, Lisa sets out various possible scenes of revolt while unsettling these possibilities at the same time. Summer nights in silk lingerie, as seen through rose coloured lenses, are positioned alongside scenes of self-doubt and cynicism. In conversation, Romy and Lisa discuss the potential of formulating a wish land in which both despair and pink revolt can be considered revolutionary.

  • Time Lost: Harryette Mullen

In this sixth episode of Time Lost, Ollie Paterson speaks to Language poet Harryette Mullen, about a work titled “Consanguinity”, constructed from a long period of research into her family history.

Through a process of “dream, history, legend, fiction, fabulation, invention”, the conversation opens up the concepts of the written reliquary, the text as container for historical events, slave narratives and ways of accessing truth as both material for the writer and nourishment for the self.

In opening a dialogue with the past, Mullen allows the listener into the roots of her family tree, up through the sublime formations of bark, harsh, violent knots and “wayward branches”, reclaiming a history that could have otherwise been lost to the annals of time. All whilst shedding a pertinent insight into the phrase “America’s first family”.

  • Gershwin Bonevacia

  • Time Lost: Rachel Levitsky

Perdu's English-spoken podcast, Time Lost, focuses on unpublished and unpublishable work.

In this third episode of Time Lost, Romy Day Winkel revisits an interview with NYC-based poet Rachel Levitsky, live in Perdu, right before lockdown. Levitsky reads from an unpublished work called ‘Existing Condition’.

In the conversation that follows, Rachel and Romy contemplate the possibilities of queer gossip in writing. When facing an increasing pressure to show up autobiographically as a writer, how does one navigate accountability in a generative way?
