Dead Men Talk

Chris welcomes Cris Holder & Rich Deadman, old school friends of his who now perform together as 'Searching For Autumn', in his first catch-up with them since they left school!

Cris & Rich recall their early musical influences, how their musical journey started together back in their school days, through to reforming as a duo a couple of years ago and challenges faced from the offset with Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdowns. Searching For Autumn are still in their early stages in terms of in-person performances but have already produced some truly outstanding dark country-inspired material of their own, making them an act to definitely look out for!

Abbe Martin & Hannah Wood met at Timepiece nightclub in Exeter, where they were both working at the time, but did they ever imagine what the future would hold for them? They share their incredible story of how and when their music journey started, how a twist of fate at a cider-and-cheese festival in Somerset then led to them garnering the attention of legendary DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans, leading to TV and festival appearances and even on to supporting none other than Rick Astley!

**SPECIAL OFFER - Use the code DEADMENS20 when pre-ordering your copy of 'Dynamite & Davey' on stevenbellwrites.com to save 20% on your order!**

In the second 'Dead Men Talk Meets Once Upon A Turnbuckle' crossover episode, Chris has the pleasure of chatting to sportswriter and journalist Steven Bell about his latest book, 'Dynamite & Davey: The Explosive Lives Of the British Bulldogs'. Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith are two of the most recognised professional wrestling stars in not only their home country but across the world!

Whether it be their exploits in the World Wrestling Federation as The British Bulldogs - which saw them reach the pinnacle of tag team wrestling with their Tag Team Title win at WrestleMania 2 - or their classic matches as individual stars in Great Britain, Canada and Japan, both men have provided wrestling fans with many happy memories for decades to come. Behind the scenes, however, both men's stories were equal parts triumph and tragedy and soon fans will be able to get what could be considered the truest insight into both men's lives when Steven's book hits the shelves in April.

Hear Steven talk about his own writing journey and wrestling fandom which brought him to this project, and how he was supported by members of both men's families along the way to finally bring this story to life. Much like the book itself, this episode is not to be missed!

To find out more about 'Dynamite & Davey: The Explosive Lives of The British Bulldogs', including how to pre-order your copy, check out Steve's pages below. The book is set for release on 11th April, 2022.

Chris is joined by US rap music star Scan Man, to discuss (among other things) his early musical influences, his time spent as a member of the rap/hip-hop super-power Three 6 Mafia through to launching his own label and distribution platform, Nephilum Muzicc and Nephilum Distribution.

We even get to take a dive into Scan Man's love for heavy metal and working with Marilyn Manson!

This is one of the most fascinating interviews to date on this show, so not to be missed!

What better way for Chris to start a new year - and a new season - than going right back to the beginning and welcoming back the first-ever interview guest he ever had - author Richard Ayre.

As well as talking about other things that have happened in their respective lives since they last spoke in summer of 2020, Richard discusses his newest release, Jack The Ripper-inspired crime thriller, 'Shadow Of The Knife'. As you'll find out, his latest offering is far from a re-hash of the infamous Jack The Ripper murder case, but rather a fresh take on events that happened thereafter.

'Show Of the Knife' is available in paperback and eBook formats from all major retailers (including Amazon and Barnes & Noble) as well as directly via the publisher, Burning Chair Publishers.

Chris closes off the podcast for 2021 with a bang, as he welcomes by far his biggest guest to date!

Stuart Davis is one of the most unique and inspirational songwriters in the world, and has drawn praise and critical acclaim from influential figures worldwide. Amongst them, Chris' own musical idol Ed Kowalczyk (from the band +LIVE+) once described Stuart as 'the greatest lyricist I've ever heard', and philosopher Ken Wilber calls him 'a rare genius'. On top of this, Stuart is a successful writer, artist, director, actor, spiritual practitioner and has even constructed his own language!

It was little surprise that Stuart was one of the artists who played a crucial part at the beginning of Chris' own creative journey, making this interview all the more poignant.

In this episode, Stuart discusses memories of his earliest creative impulses, starting when his father bought him his first guitar and showed him three chords. By the time he was in high school, Stuart had recorded his first album and had sold copies to most of the other students there. Chris also gets to discover more about the inspirations and "stories behind the stories" of a few of his favourite Stuart Davis songs, his impromptu performance with +LIVE+ frontman Ed Kowalczyk and the day Stuart met Kermit The Frog for his own TV series, 'Sex, God & Rock 'n' Roll'.

The end result is one of the most compelling interviews on Dead Men Talk thus far and is certainly not to be missed!

Chris has the pleasure of speaking to singer-songwriter Maryen Cairns, whose debut single 'Too Young To Die' achieved worldwide acclaim in the 90s.

As well as her early work getting her noticed by FISH from Marillion (which led to Maryen being chosen to provide backing vocals on one of his albums!), her unique and captivating style has continued to attract fans worldwide and has led to many interesting feats, including working on an album with a renowned Rolling Stones producer, playing piano in an extinct volcano crater for a well-known brand's advert, having a YouTube video with over 56k views and living on an unchartered mountaintop!

In this interview, we discuss Maryen's many influences and her incredible journey which has taken her from Australia to London, back again and now to her home in Guernsey. Also hear all about how Maryen is attracting new listeners and keeping in touch with her fan base thanks to her own marketing and dedicated Facebook group, 'The Cairns Club.'
