“I love Halloween!” said Evie, twirling in her beautiful princess costume. “And this year I think we should trick-or-treat down Old Farm Road.”
“Really? That sounds scary,” said her best friend Oliver, pulling at the neck of his green frog costume. “I heard that a witch lives at the end of Old Farm Road.”
“That’s exactly why I want to go,” said Evie, grabbing Oliver’s hand. “Come on!”
“This is a rare storm,” said Uncle Jonah. “The closer we get to Halloween, the more the veil between the living and the dead opens up and the ghosts roam about outside their realm. I don’t wonder that something may be blown up from the depths of the sea tonight. I’ve seen it before.”
Luna and Lila were sisters. They didn’t like to wash their faces or comb their hair, and they especially didn’t like to brush their teeth. “You girls should be careful,” warned Mom. “Zombies love dirt, especially near the brains.” The sisters didn’t care if they were dirty and they had never seen a zombie anyway.
