Danielle Halverson is 20 years old.  A petite frame, you would be hard pressed if you passed her on the street to think the words 'stone cold killer'.  But make no mistake, despite her age, looks, and demeanor, Danielle is a lethal bowhunter. Dave Paulides, author of the book Missing 411 - Hunters - Unexplained Disappearances, part of a series backed by the CanAm Project, decided to delve deeper and investigate a subset of missing persons, specifically those who disappeared in National Parks and Forests. So, we decided to take another deeper look into the subject, only this time with Shawn Smith from Texas. If you’ve shopped for a tree stand between 1996 and now, you may have noticed a sticker on the box or on the tree stand with the three initials, TMA - the Treestand Manufacturer's Association. This sticker seems to be attached to everything we buy relative to climbing a tree these days, but what the heck does in mean? Climbing a tree prior to 1996 really was all that saf  and certainly there was no accountability regarding tree stand industry standards.  In a room, in a voluntary meeting at a trade show in Atlanta, Georgia in 1995, a group of treestand manufacturers gathered to build a new set of standards specific to a niche group of products that only a niche group of people understand, called treestands. It wasn’t as smooth as you might think, but it certainly changed the industry forever, made it safer, and ultimately more enjoyable and effective for the hunter. That TMA sticker, it means a heck of a lot more than meets the eye.
