January 18, 2023 #155 College Spotlight: Chapman University
Season 7, Episode 155
College Spotlight: Chapman University
At many colleges, you are encouraged to reach out to your area's Admission Officer (AO). At Chapman, they make it too easy to pass up, from the robust “Meet your Counselor” pages to the slideshow on a continuous loop in the Admission office waiting room, the folks at Chapman WANT you to get to know your Rep.
Unlike many schools, Chapman ALSO includes a link to access your AO while you’re working on your application – the Chapman page on the Common App has a link inviting you to reach out to your AO right on their top page!
Not only does Chapman make it easy to make yourself known to the Admission office online, they also create opportunities to get to know them in person. Each Admission Officer is encouraged to plan a service project in the local area they serve.
I HIGHLY recommend doing this and taking advantage of this – a GREAT way for your AO to remember your name and you get to be yourself. That is the person you want to get to know and you want that person to know you!
Also, once you’ve met your AO, send a thank you note – handwritten is great – this still goes a long way!

January 03, 2023 #153 College Spotlight: Vassar College
Season 7, Episode 153
College Spotlight: Vassar College

This college turned down Yale’s offer to merge. Instead, Vassar opened its doors to men in 1969.
For full disclosure and as you will discover in my book – I worked at Vassar College for four years in Residence Life and the Admission Office. Many of the tales in the book are inspired by real life adventures at Vassar. I have said many times that Vassar is one of the most beautiful campuses I have been to – and I have been to likely 100 campuses over the last 20 + years. It was true when I had only been to 5 and it remains a true statement today.
I am excited to share with you my three favorite things about Vassar.
