They say it takes a village, and when it comes to college admissions this could not be more true. When I first meet with a family, it’s all about how everyone can contribute and how parents can be helpful without being invasive.
For me, as a Coach, my job is to remind each student how cool they are. It sounds simple, but Monica’s daughter was actually VERY cool. I don’t know if she knew how very cool she is, but with every opportunity I reminded her.
For Mira, the challenge was this: what is the story she needed to tell to overcome her slightly less than “perfect” transcript. My role is to help a student (and family) take a look at the transcript, the resume, any accomplishments or accolades and help to MAXIMIZE the choices and opportunities for each individual student.
