We hear about how more young athletes are participating in sports year-round, having one on one sessions with trainers, teams attending sports performance facilities for specific training. We even talk about the importance of proper nutrition, sleep, and hydration. This is all great, but we sometimes overlook an essential part of a well-balanced training program which also consists of rest and recovery. On today’s episode, I will go over the importance of healing, the different types and how something as simple as water and a pool is a great way to help them get great rest and recovery.

On Today's Athlete Tip of the Week Friday I will review a movie that will help every coach or parent who has heard a young athlete ask during practice “why am I doing this, when are we going to scrimmage, or why can’t I just go out there and play my position”. This is a movie that I have used to help young athletes develop for years. As the film unfolds, the viewer understands the importance of discipline, respect, and patience as a young athlete trains for a pivotal event. I highly recommend this movie for parents coaches and the young athlete.

Our guest today is board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics and sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed his combined residency from Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Following his residency, he completed further fellowship training in Sports Medicine. He has had extensive experience in ambulatory and community-based medicine-as an IHA Physician, Associate Program Director of Ambulatory Education for the St. Joseph Internal Medicine Residency Program, Team Physician for Concordia University, Saline and Ypsilanti-Lincoln High Schools.
