The paper’s author discusses the preliminary experience to efficiently screen patients for preoperative nutrition risk and proactively manage malnutrition before and after surgery. The POET team believes that programs such as this will improve nutrition screening, nutrition care and outcomes, along with significant cost savings due to the negative and costly effects of malnutrition.
