What are the two most expensive things you can think of?  That's right: insulin and space travel.  That's why this mission to mars is just another rich person's fantasy.  They'll be treating their diabetes and trying not to freeze to death while the rest of us are stuck down here in temperate climates like fools.  Also, we'll all be using BlackBerry phones again.  Surprise.
