Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy bring you a special episode after doing a Facebook Live with Katie Martineau, the unique baseball mom behind our previous guest, 15-year-old Connecticut baseball player Lillian Martineau. Katie came on for a chat about things behind the scenes of helping her amazing daughter navigate the fun but sometimes difficult waters of being a girl trying to make it in baseball as a teenager.

Katie recounted the emotional and difficult day a few years ago when Lilli was in seventh grade and denied a chance to try out for the baseball team. She gave insight into the way social media, with despite its pitfalls, has played a part in helping Lilli get some recognition, including her relationship with baseball pioneer Missy Coombes. Missy was watching along and adding comments, which Riz read and the crew talked about.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy welcomed in 15-year-old baseball player Lillian Martineau to talk about her love for the game and what it's like being a girl playing baseball in 2021. Lilli is from Connecticut and has played travel ball. She recently garnered headlines by making her high school JV team, for which she pitches, and plays first base and the outfield. She often shares her classic left-handed swing on social media.

This amazing young lady is also a stellar student, garnering straight A's for as long as she can remember. Lilli (@Lillian_Martineau on Twitter) has had her share of tough times being a girl in a sport almost exclusively played by boys, but she's also enjoyed some amazing support. Check out the moment when Riz & Dawg brought in baseball pioneer and former professional pitcher Missy Coombes to talk to Lillian for the first time. The two had exchanged messages before, but this was their first virtual meeting, creating a truly memorable moment.

There was a special installment of Diehard Dads as Lilli's father, Chad, jumped in for the final segment. The three dads talked about life with daughters, and Chad gave us some deeper insight into his extraordinary daughter with some of the things she has endured and accomplished in her youth. As an extension of this episode, Lillian's mother, Katie, will join the guys Wednesday, April 13 at 9 p.m. ET on Facebook Live.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy brought in Joe Lemire from SportTechie.com. Lemire broke Riz's heart in the seventh game of the Strat-O-Matic Elite Media Experts League and recounted what would be one of the most memorable games in MLB history ... if it was real. His Red Sox claimed seventh-game victory over Riz's Cardinals.

Lemire (SportTechie.com, @LemireJoe on Twitter) also talked hardball with Riz & Dawg about being a contributor to MLB Network and the New York Times, explained how the tech business has infiltrated everyday operations in baseball, took on the online debate of old school vs. data-driven baseball, and more. He even gave insights on an old Wiffle Ball injury and his brother, Jonathan, who is a political reporter covering the White House for The AP.

Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy brought the show over the one-year threshold as they welcomed in frequent co-host/guest Jerry Milani to celebrate the memorable moments from Year One of Diamond Diehards. If you're new to us, find out the backstories of how the show began and get some insight into the backgrounds of Riz, Dawg and Jerry, who have known one another for over 30 years (that means they've been friends for longer than most other podcasters have been alive ;-).

This was not just a trip down (recent) memory lane, as Riz, Dawg and Jerry discussed the ramifications of injuries to White Sox OF Eloy Jimenez, closer Kirby Yates and CF George Springer of the Blue Jays, and Yankees 1B Luke Voit. There was some talk about a possible MLB misstep by not bringing enough televised content from Spring Training, and a quick preview of the upcoming Strat-O-Matic Elite Media Experts League Finals, between Riz (Cardinals) and Sportchie.com guru and MLB Network contributor Joe Lemire (Red Sox). In fact, Lemire is going to be on an upcoming show to discuss the Strat league and share his wealth of baseball knowledge!

Our social media pal and teen baseball phenom Lillian Martineau aced her tryout and made the JV baseball team at her high school, so there was a pause for celebration of this inspiring young athlete. And the guys wished former Orioles closer Gregg Olson a healthy recovery from prostate cancer.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz flew solo with Jeff "The Dawg" Healy taking this one off, and chatted about stories of baseball and life with former major-league catcher and long-time Princeton Baseball Head Coach Scott Bradley.

Bradley had a nine-year career in the Majors with the Yankees, White Sox and Reds, but mostly with the Mariners, with whom he caught Randy Johnson's first career no-hitter. Bradley recounted what it was like receiving for the Big Unit, but it did not stop there. He went in depth about the catching position from the levels of youth to the majors, expounded about the philosophies of America's Pastime from the eyes of players and coaches, and dug deep into what it takes to run an Ivy League program where his kids have been limited to five games in 2020 and none in 2021, versus the high-profile programs that are stealing headlines today, like Vanderbilt.

Bradley also talked about the controversies with launch angles, catching on one knee, wristbands for calling pitches, and gave his take on Gary Sanchez of the Yankees. Riz also asked Bradley a trivia question about his playing career!

They finished it with Bradley talking about his well-accomplished older brother Bob (and Bob's son, Michael) and younger brother Jeff.

As a team leader for her MP Company in the Kentucky Army National Guard, she deployed to Iraq in 2005. The discussion moved to the aces for the respective New York teams, as Jacob deGrom and Gerrit Cole already look like they're in midseason form on March 16. There was a breakdown of what lies behind them in the respective rotations of the Mets and Yankees. Plus there was a look at the Nationals, with Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.

And then the conversation turned to the spring bomb Shohei Otani launched for the Angels, a 464-foot blast against AL Cy Young winner Shane Bieber. There was a dive into what the Angels could do with their two-way superstar to maximize his value, with Riz & Dawg going outside the box and disagreeing with what has been conventional wisdom.

Dawg got things going with Veteran of the Day. It was 2nd Lt. Jocelyn Coutant, the first female infantry officer in the Connecticut Army National Guard. A former sergeant in an aviation unit, she decided to go to Officer Candidate School, then branched to Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course. She is now deploying with her unit, the 1-102 Infantry Battalion to the Horn of Africa to fight the War on Terror.

Missy (https://twitter.com/MissyCoombes) pitched for the Colorado Silver Bullets, an all-female professional baseball team, from 1994-96. A crafty lefty, Coombes knows the game inside and out. She recounted her amazing story, starting with a zinger for Riz and covering her time with the Silver Bullets, her All-America career on the softball diamond for Cal State Fullerton, her relationship with the Niekro brothers, and general philosophies of pitching and playing from decades of knowledge.
